“Good Hotel, nice location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2010

A bright airy hotel with lots of light, stayed here for 4 nights. Nice spacious rooms but also plenty of places to sit and relax around the hotel. Great breakfast with plenty of choice. We ate in the bar on two occasions and the food/service was excellent.

It is only a short stroll into the centre of Santiago but away from the noise and traffic of the city.

“Stayed here the night before my wedding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2010

I got married in Santiago de compostela, and chose to stay at the AC Palacio del Carmen for my last night of being a Miss!
The check in was quick and easy, and they have a number of staff who can speak a little English, so my Spanish being far from perfect, we got by! The room was a suite as I needed the space for my bridal trousseau and a bridemaid and her things. The room was lovely, well furnished, an amazing bathroom and a huge bed! Super King size I think!
The staff were great, I had in excess of 20 friends and family for an inpromptu hen party in the drinks lounge late afternoon, this caused no problems and they were extremely friendly.
My bridesmaid and I ate dinner in the restaurant that evening and we were not disappointed. As my now husband's family are from this region I have had most of the dishes in some shape or form before, but the taster menu was very good quality of favourite galician cuisine. The wine is immense- I tend to sip a Martin Codax as I like it alot! Dinner was as you would expect from a 5 star and came to about 80 Euros for two with wine.
The only reason I have given the sleep quality 4/5 is that I didnt sleep very well as it was the night before my wedding- but the room was to a very high standard and had amazing views of the cathedral.
Breakfast wasn't included, and came to 14.95 Euros and was pretty good for that price considering what was included. Plates of various cheeses and hams, pastries and savouries...I only wish that I could have eaten more of it as I was feeling a bit nervous by this point!
I probably would come here again, as a treat only though as it was fairly hefty check out bill, but worth it for a special occasion. There is a pool, turkish bath ie steam room, but we didnt venture there as my hair was done and up ready for the hairdresser the following morning.

“pretentious hotel/personnel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2010

We stayed in this hotel for two nights in June.
The hotel is average and quite expensive for what they offer. The service doesn't match other 5 stars hotel we stayed in.
We definitely didn't see the room as :"When you enter your room, you will feel like you have entered into a place designed to help you rest"; the room was quite standard, rather dark, the floor around the bed was not in the best condition. If I am not mistaken there was no safe in the room.
Most of all we were surprised to find out the costs of internet in the room. If you want you have free internet in the lobby, however in our case it wasn't working and we had to request information at the reception and after insisting, the connection in the lobby was restored.
We found the receptionists with a rather sneering attitude, not giving information if not asked specifically; for example about the parking policy: if you park just outside the hotel (within the hotel property), it is free, if you park in the underground parking, then you have to pay a rather expensive charge.
The breakfast was OK, though not exceptional and rather expensive.
All in all, the hotel is not bad, however for the way it is presented on their internet site it was rather disappointing, the attitude of the receptionist at check in didn't help either, if I would have to go back, I'd chose another hotel.

“On the whole, a positive experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2010

I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights - and have no major complaints. The rooms are nicely decorated, breakfast is good and plentiful, and the location is fine (a 10-minute walk to the center of town). There's a free minibar in each room, something quite unusual (understandably, it only includes one alcoholic drink - a small bottle of beer).
The one thing I'd like to criticise is Internet access: they keep claiming that it's free in the lobby, but it never works. And they know that but still claim it does. ;-) If you want access in your room, you have to buy a card from Telefonica - €6.50 for one hour (without any option to log out and back in again later) or €12 for 24 hours. I know it's in a way silly, but it would probably stop me from going back to the hotel if I had to pay for the stay myself. ;-)
