I had read the reviews on Tripadvisor before I choose this hotel, it sounded quite exciting staying in a shopping centre and I promptly signed up to stay there, what a good choice!
We arrived into Santiago pretty late on a Ryanair flight from Liverpool and outside the airport there was a bus waiting for us. It was 5 euro return (good value) it was a brisk bus journey into town, we stupidly followed the crowd of loud mouthed scousers getting off at the hotel in town at the Praza Galicia, if we'd have stayed on the bus we could have got off at the bus station which was about a ten minute walk from the hotel. However, it only cost 5Euro in the taxi from Praza Galicia to Hotel Area Central.
The hotel is part of this massive shopping centre (which has a wide variety of shops including many takeaway restaurants and a giant supermarket open 10 to 10). The rooms were very nice although there was some wierd sounds coming from the air conditioning unit and also we did have a room with a window that opened up into the shopping centre so there was no fresh air to be had.
Breakfast was not included but you could go don stairs for a buffet breakfast at 7euros however, I would probably suggest going to the supermarket or visiting a coffee shop in the shopping centre called Herra or Hemma or something which has lovely coffee and cakes! But still as a treat the breakfast is good croissants, chocolate and custard buns, meat, cheese everything you expect from a continental breakfast.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and some had excellent english skills. The walk to town is pleasant enough its about a 15 min walk uphill and you go past some nice cake shops on the way. Overall a good experience was had by all at the Area Central (look out for the fat people statues in the centre they're amazing).
