Even though the hotel has seen better days and would need some refurbishing, the room was clean and good value for money (53€/night). The location at the central Plaza de Galicia just five minutes from the historical center is excellent. We asked (and got) a room to the backyard, which was reasonably quiet. All in all its convenient place to stay if you don't expect much more than a comfortable bed for the night.

This hotel cost about GBP38 for a double/twin/single room. The beds are clean although the decor has seen better days.
A review I read commented that there was quite a bit of road noise and thats a fair point but if you are a sound sleeper (or can return to sleep), which we all could, then this hotel is too well priced to ignore. Also the location is fantastic for wandering into town, the bars near the university campus or the park.

Admittedly the Universal isn't hugely expensive; especially not when you consider it's right in to the centre of town. However, you really do need air con, which - in my room at least - it just doesn't have. As a result, it was far too hot in bed, and even on a day when there had been rain and it was much cooler the room was very unpleasantly hot and sticky.

I'd recommend skipping the breakfast, too. It's an uninspiring croissant and bread roll and a rather old bit of fruit.

This isn't somewhere I'd recommend at least until the rooms have been upgraded.
