“A Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2010

My wife and I stayed recently at the Melia Araguaney for a week and had a marvelous time at this hotel. The hotel is not one of these modern hotels that are minimalist in style. This hotel has character, with a huge mural depicting Galicians on a wall of the lobby. There are beautiful chairs made of wood with shell inlays. There is a chess table with a chess set so that people can play here.

Our room was huge, and it had a sofa and two very comfortable arm chairs. What I enjoyed was the huge writing desk along one wall. This writing desk had many drawers to organize things and papers. I wish I had a writing desk like this in my home. The room was very comfortable and so were the beds, with two different types of pillows. The bathroom was spacious and had very good cosmetic items, such as shampoo and a liquid cream. The soap came in little square shapes and was very good.

The most important thing is that people who work for the hotel are very friendly and simpatico. The desk clerk name Maribel was especially helpful with information and she was able to book us for excursions to different parts of Galicia. The breakfast buffet was good and Pepe, the man serving us was also very friendly and helpful, with excellent service.

There is also a small pool in the back, which was unexpected.

I will definitely come back to this hotel when I return to Santiago. The location is wonderful because the Cathedral is only a 10 minute walk away and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. There are also plenty of modern stores around the hotel, so one cannot be bored here.

“Comfortable spacious rooms in a decent location”

We spent two nights at the Melia Araguaney and enjoyed our stay. The hotel is slightly old fashioned in it's decor, but everything is well presented. The room was very large, the bed comfortable, and bathroom nice. Our friends complained of noise from late night street partying, but they had their window open We found our room well insulated from street noise by the large double glazing gap. The room ventilation worked well, The car was garaged beneath the hotel, convenient in a city where there seemed to be little parking, and the hotel was no more than 10 minutes from the Cathedral. The staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble. We had a good light lunch in the restaurant; just what we wanted. I would be happy to stay there again, anytime.

“Very nice hotel as long as you don't need to sleep!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2010

My wife and I stayed here on Friday and Saturday nights. The hotel is quite traditional, but very pleasant with spacious rooms and helpful staff. The location is also good for access to the old city, just two or three blocks away. Unfortunately, the disadvantages were that (a) the car park was rather cramped and difficult to park and get out, and (b) the noise in the street outside was absolutely terrible from around midnight until 7 in the morning, on both nights. It sounded like a drunken football crowd all night, shouting and singing!

“A touch of class just outside old town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2009

Set in a unimposing 70s style block of shops and offices, once you step inside the atmosphere changes to a plush, well decorated lobby, with good size bedrooms. The staff are very attentive and I saw the receptionist dealing very patiently with a guest who who was complaining loudly about a mistake in her bill. The receptionist was polite throughout - even though the guest was wrong! Good food at breakfast - a wide selection of cold buffet (including real orange juice) and some hot dishes. The hotel sprawls a bit on its corner site, so do not miss the very comfortable and reasonable public bar. An excellent choice for a few days on Santaigo.

“Nice hotel overall”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2009

Stayed here for 2 nights. It's located a 7-10 minute walk from the old town. It's located in a busy commercial/shopping district, quite close to some nice shops.

Nice big rooms, and great bathrooms stocked with Etro bath products.

Beautiful, well lit breakfast room, stocked with all sorts of Spanish meats and cheeses, as well as many types of seasonal fruit. Cereal, bacon and eggs for people who like that type of stuff. Amazing fresh squeezed oj.

The staff were very friendly and quite helpful.

My main complaint was thevery hard mattress. Much harder than I am used to, and not comfortable at all. Made it difficult to fall to sleep, even after a long day of travel, and sightseeing.

The value was good for a 5 star hotel- I had been able to find a single for 88 Eu, (breakfast was 16 Eu more, but well worth it), and another room for 2 including breakfast for around 130Eu.

If I only had one night to stay in Santiago de Compostela, and money was not an object, I would choose to stay at the Parador. But the Parador was charging 248 Eu per room for when I could stay at the Araguaney for less than 100 Eu.

If I was going to Santiago for the first time, I'd probably choose to stay in the Old Town, if I could find a decent rate (even if it meant a 3 or 4 star instead of a 5 star hotel), but this hotel was a good option a short walk away.

Ended up eating at the Restaurant Caney underneath the hotel- good spot for tapas and raciones! Love the pimientos de Padron!
