“Very good, excellent room and helpful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Stayed for 4 nights in room 311. Room was good with a surprisingly large "matrimonial" bed. Very clean and had everything we needed. Bonus that there is no charge for the safe and you can keep a few bits cool in the minibar fridge for free. Reception staff are very helpful - speak good English and were tolerant of our attempts at Castillian Spanish. Breakfast is good with hot dishes cooked to order by friendly staff who take a real pride in giving good service. Only downside is the location. Hotel is a good 25 minute brisk walk to the old town, a bit less to the shopping area. There is a bus (L2) but the last one back is at 22.15. Area does feel very safe to walk in though. We went to a little bar over the road "El Confessionari" a couple of times - good atmosphere for a Barca match. Overall the Melia is brilliant if you dont mind a bit of walking.

Room Tip: Front of hotel in Winter is warmest.

“ALL the staff are a credit to this wonderful hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

We stayed at the Melia after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor and we were not disappointed. We arrived very late and the receptionist was very nice upon our arrival.

The room was a very good size as was the bathroom, tastefully decorated and very comfortable in all respects. Tea & coffee making facilities were appreciated as was the wifi which is free throughout the hotel including the hotel rooms.

Breakfast room is light and airy and the choice of breakfasts is extensive, from a hot choice, continental, cereals, fruits, yoghurts, breads, cakes, pastries, fruits and there is a table displaying regional produce which you can help yourself - we thought this was a very nice touch! Plenty of choices of drinks as well including freshly squeezed orange juice.

We had our last meal of our stay in the hotel restaurant which serves a good choice on the menu at very reasonable prices for the quality of the food, there is also a set 3 course menu including glass of wine and mineral water for €16! We chose from the menu and it was lovely.

We hope to return to Girona in the future and would definitely come back to the Melia, all of the staff are a credit to the hotel. We returned from a day out and the reception gentleman opened the bar so that we could enjoy a beer even though the bar hadn't yet opened. Damasas, the barman and waiter is very friendly and helpful.

Thank you to everyone at the Melia!

“Excellent, friendly hotel in beautiful Girona”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

December 2011 - I stayed here with my partner to photograph Girona (which is such a beautiful, colourful, safe place). She and I were both delighted with the atmosphere and friendliness of the staff. It's close to the train station so gets a lot of use from business travellers, but we really felt 'at home' here.

We asked for some information of what to see in Girona, and were given a lot of really valuable local knowledge, as well as maps and guides on the 'must sees'. We walked to the Cathedral from the hotel on Sunday, and found it to be majestic (and free). The Jewish 'Call' makes great pictures too.

Breakfast was good - LOADS of choice. Freshly squeezed orange juice, Iberian ham, a range of croissants and cakes, salads, fresh fruit and hot English breakfasts too. We enjoyed a Romantic dinner at the hotel in the restaurant. The food was delicious and the Catalan wine is worth going back for alone!

Also worth mentioning that the wifi is free, fast and with good coverage; and there's a computer available for you to use to - which was useful to check emails and look for local opening times. Our bed was comfortable, the hotel was quiet, and the little bottles of shampoo were good quality. I don't often write reviews for hotels, but I wanted to share my good experience.

“Actions speak louder than words!”

I stayed again at the Melia Girona after 1 year 8 months and I may say that if I thought that all about this hotel is excellent, now it is even better.

Improving on excellence happens only when there is an ongoing effort from all involved to keep up the good work over the years and improving on it.

Excellent keep it up! Melia Girona best place to stay in Girona

Room Tip: Just behind the hotel there is a big hyper market....do not miss visiting it.

“Excellent hotel - shame about the location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

We spent 3 nights at the Melia Girona en route from France to Málaga. The hotel seemed organised for business visitors but as it was the end of August the hotel was quiet and very good value for the facilities. The staff were very helpful and tolerant of my Spanish (not always the case in Catalonia). The free wifi was welcome and very good reception throughout the hotel.

The location was not the hotels best feature. It was a good 30+ minutes walk out of town, just off a main road and backing onto the main railway line. The double glazing made sure that nothing was heard of the outside world but it wasn't "scenic".

This made eating in town a bit of a trek. However, we found a restaurant/bar about 150m towards town next to the park (Parc del Migdia). The Vadebrasa provided an excellent Menu del Noche of 3 courses + half a litre of house wine (each) at a reasonable price. The staff were even willing to convert the Catalan menu into Spanish/French/English. So good we ate there 2 nights running.

Parking provided by the hotel was extortionate at €14 a night but there was a parking area opposite the hotel that was free - if there was space as it is used by a block of flats and the customers at the nearby El Cortes Ingles store. Busiest times were between 5 and 8 every evening when it filled up with shoppers.

Room Tip: Spanish hotels still seem to allow smoking in rooms. If it bothers you insist on a non smoking room...
