“For independent travelers...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

This is a no-frills B&B which offers good value for independent travelers. As mentioned, it's a small apartment divided into 5 very small rooms and 2 bathrooms (one tiny, one larger).

Liked: the price, shampoo / shower gel provided, decent breakfast of toast, simple pastries, cereals, jam, etc. in a well-equipped welcoming kitchen area. Equidistant from Sagrada Familia and Dos de Maig metro stations (use Sagrada Familia, a much more interesting walk, either one about an 8-10 minute walk). Good wifi (bring your own computer, no common one available).

Didn't like: I wasn't aware that the hosts aren't there permanently. They arrange to meet you (you'll need to phone them when you arrive) and brief you, but other than that, you probably won't see them at all. This is great for the independent traveler or someone who's familiar with Barcelona, but there were no metro maps or maps of any kind available (how hard is it to have maps around, especially of the neighborhood?) Also, had the misfortune of Iberia losing my luggage for 1.5 days. It was frustrating to have to wait around for the luggage to come with no one permanently on duty at the property. If this hadn't happened, I probably wouldn't have minded so much. Just be aware that the rooms are very small, but then again, so is the price. (My room's window to the courtyard wouldn't lock, so it was a bit disconcerting...) But overall, a decent value.

Travel tips: (1) Sagrada Familia is definitely worth a visit despite the high entry (12.5 euros). Arrive later in the afternoon to avoid the crowds (there was a line literally around the block at 11am but virtually no line at 4pm). (2) There's a 10 trip metro option for 8.25 euros which was great. (3) If traveling solo, try using shuttledirect.com for a shared shuttle from the directly to Padilla's for only 10 euros to avoid schlepping your luggage a pretty long way.

“nice neighborhood with access to a kitchen”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

This place is a 5 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment within walking distance to the Sagrada Familia, multiple supermarkets, and the metro. The place is pretty well kept with the common areas cleaned daily, but the rooms and towels are cleaned only for those with a stay longer than 3 days.

The kitchen is conveniently equipped with the basics (plates, bowls, silverware, few pots and pans, etc) if you want to save some money and eat in. The quality of your stay probably depends on the people renting out the rest of the rooms, but we had no noise problems and everyone else was fairly neat in the shared bathrooms.

Although it was advertised as having a/c and others have reported having a/c, we did not. The unit was there in the room, but the remote control had been removed so that it could not be used. Perhaps the heat wave a few days before our arrival had driven up costs and they were trying to compensate by not having the a/c when it had cooled down a bit? I don't know. Opening the windows to let in the breeze did a pretty good job of circulating some cool air.

Otherwise, everything was great and the hosts were helpful and friendly.

“Best offer for an affordable trip to Barca”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2011

Thumb up for this B&B!!I searched a lot a rather cheap accommodation for a few days in Barcelona, but the locals know very well the touristic value of the town and prices are high. Finally I fortunately found Padilla, which offers a lot for a modest fee. As a matter of fact, at its category (room with shared bathroom), Padilla is by far the best and not only because of the money. What it offers: a semi-central position, near Sagrada Familia (allowed me to see most of the town by foot), access at a completely utilized kitchen (a major plus when you are a rather picky vegetarian like me…several supermarkets are very close), breakfast (basic, but you can also make a coffee or a tea whenever you want during the day), Wi-Fi. Sincerely, I think I was offered more than I paid for. They even have some oil and vinegar in a drawer in the kitchen or a little detergent for your basic laundry in the bathroom! For the rest, the B&B is cleaned daily and every other kind of problem (noise, or eventual dirt left behind) is only due to the other guests. However, in order to sleep well it is better to have a nice pair of ear ploughs, just in case…
Rooms are spacious enough, single rooms have windows facing an interior courtyard with vegetation and are rather silent. The person in charge, Bernat, is available for different problems, you can contact him whenever you want easily. Overall, it is a place that offered me the possibility to visit a wonderful town, without risking bankruptcy! If ever I’ll be back, without any doubt I’ll choose Padilla again.

Room Tip: For single rooms, Batlo is more quiet..

“Great locations and a kitchen too!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 April 2011

If you want a reasonable place to stay with a full kitchen (supermarket is just next door) in a great location - stay here! Kitchen had all utensils, microwave, full refrigerator and a stove/oven. It was nice not to have to find a place to eat every day. Breakfast is always available with fresh juices, coffee/tea, bread, muffins, and condiments. In a great location very close to the metro. Bakery, fruit and fresh fish market are just across the street. Anna was fantastic - made us feel so welcomed and was helpful giving us information about Padilla and the area.

Room Tip: LArgest rooms - Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell ros
