A friend and I had planned to rent an apartment while visiting Barcelona so we could feel at home instead of living out of suitcases. We chose Amiga Barcelona (based on stellar TripAdvisor reviews) for our first few days before finding an apartment. To our delight, this exceptional B&B and its warm, generous owner, Margarita, were just the "home" we were looking for, and we stayed a full two weeks. Our rooms were cozy and comfortable, and the eclectic decor throughout the B&B was inviting. Breakfast offerings were among the best I've encountered while traveling, from fruit, juices, yogurt, and cereals to croissants, French bread, cheeses, and cold meats. Jams, marmalade, nuts, Nutella, hot chocolate, a wide variety of teas, and coffee rounded out the meal. Snacks (cookies, chocolate, nuts, tea/coffee/hot chocolate) were available throughout the day as well.
The location of the B&B is a quiet residential neighborhood not far from the Vallcarca Metro station, which is on the L3 (green) line, the handiest to the sights most visited at a number of stops just a few minutes farther downtown. It was easy to change lines and find buses from this location, and the quiet of Amiga Barcelona's neighborhood was a plus. There is also a market a few doors down on Gomis, and a parallel street a block away with a bank/ATM, cafes, pharmacies, small clothing stores, a bakery, and a deli.
Visiting with Margarita and other guests made our stay truly memorable; a library and the large dining area were comfortable common areas that made this part of our daily routine. Travelers (from Germany, Australia, Italy, Switzerland, and the US while we were there) enjoyed sharing the experience of an intimate home away from home. Thanks to Margarita for creating such a lovely B&B and for all her sage advice and hospitality!
