We decided to stay here because we thought it would be in walking distance to the port as were going on a cruise. True, it is close to the port but not walking distance as most of the ships are at the far end of the port and way too far to walk with luggage. We ended up getting a taxi so it would not have made much different if we had chose somewhere in another location of Barcelona. We stayed in a quad room which had 4 beds. The room was small but clean. It did feel closed in as there were no windows and it was very dark even during the day. The room and bathroom was basic but we found it to be clean. I didn't find the people working at the reception very friendly. There was one man who I assume was the boss who was reasonably friendly and helpful but the young man and young girl working there were not particlarly friendly or helpful and their english was limited. The location was fine as we could easily walk to Las Ramblas but the area around the hotel was a bit on the seedy side. Anyone who goes to Barcelona needs to be particularly careful with their belongings as pickpockets are rife. We met one woman at the hostal who had everything stolen including passport. The Hostal BCN Port is fine is you just want a bed for the night before your cruise.
