“Convenient Base for a Visit to Barcelona”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2009

This hostal is very conveniently located, across the street from a Metro station (Urquinaona) and within easy walking distance of Las Ramblas and Plaça Catalunya. Less than one block away is an Open Cor grocery store (open until very late). El Corte Ingles department store is located about four blocks away. The hostal staff was very helpful before we arrived and throughout our stay. The hostal is officially in the "1er piso" (first floor), but it's actually in the third level.

We stayed in Room #5, a clean triple room with a two-burner stove top (no oven), a small refrigerator and a small balcony facing the street. It was enjoyable having the balcony for watching people and traffic, but the room was a little noisy even with the balcony doors closed. If you have difficulty sleeping with some noise, you may want to ask for an interior room. Also, you can also feel the trains from the Metro as they pass below, but the trains stop running around midnight (except on Saturdays when they run through the night). None of us were affected by this noise, however.

We drove into Barcelona (this was one of many stops on our trip) and parked at an underground garage (named Urquinaona) one block away from the hostal. Although it was very convenient, this garage was also very expensive. If you need parking in the area, do some research or ask the hostal staff for other alternatives. If you're only going to Barcelona, you do not need a car. The Metro is very clean and efficient. T-10 Metro tickets (good for 10 trips by multiple persons) are the best buy for visitors.

“Great hostal in a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 June 2008

Have just returned from a trip to Spain and would highly recommend this hostal to anyone traveling on a budget. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The hostal is in a great location and in a beautiful old building. The studio we were in was very clean and had everything we needed including a fridge and a small kitchen.

“Fantastic Hostel for a family!!!!”

http://www.barcelonacenterplaza.com/barcelonacenterplaza-e.html

Wonderful Fantastic Hostel for our family!!! Went beyond my expectations! We did not pay attention at first that the accommodations were considered a "hostel" When I think of hostels I think of 20 something’s with backpacks partying all the time. This was not the case. Everyone was very respectful to others. The four days, that we where there we did not see the other guests. We would just would hear them leaving their rooms in the mornings.
Family room- 1xDouble with a bunk bed. Kitchen equipped with a 2 burner stove top. Sink, small fridge all the dishes you would need. Utensils, glasses, coffee mugs, pots, frying pans, wine bottle opener (a must)
Ensuite bathroom (very clean). Small table with 4 chairs. Closet, TV with cable and English speaking channels. Balcony.
Heat and AC.
The room was very, very clean. We did not expect it but, our room was made up for us every day and we were given fresh towels.
To get to the hotel floor take the old time elevator to the 1st floor. Kids will love it!
Walk out the front door and directly across the street is the metro stop-Urquinaona. Walk out the front door turn to the right and walk half a block and there is a grocery store-Open Cora. They open early and close very late 2400. Great prices. Has everything you would need. Milk, juice, eggs, bread, cereal, water (very chlorinated to drink out of faucet) They also have an ATM.
Walk out the front door and turn left and walk 4 blocks and you are at La Rambla.
The location was perfect to explore Barcelona. The owners are very, very friendly. Everyone speaks perfect English. If you have any questions about Barcelona they are more than happy to help. Building is getting a facelift. Scaffolding is covering building. Hope the pictures help.
I highly recommend this "hostel" or in my opinion hotel for everyone!

“Excellent value for money and location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2007

New and hence very clean and tidy studios, very close to Plaza Catalunya so an easy transfer by bus from airport. Convenience store located closeby which was handy as the room had a kitchenette and fridge.

Accommodation was slightly noisy due to location above underground trains but these did stop at an ok time. The plumbing was also a bit noisy. However, the price, location, and en-suite etc made up for these little disturbances.

  • Liked — Location, kitchenette, en-suite
  • Disliked — Noise from underground train and plumbing

“Lovely staff, good location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 May 2007

We had booked into Barcelona Center Guest house & Studios but on arrival our host rang to tell us the room was having plumbing problems and he'd moved us to the Hostal Barcelona Center Plaza,.

After we got lost on arrival, they came and found us (!!) and took us where we were staying. The room we had was large, clean and with new kitchenette and bathroom. It was also very secure being on the 3 floor up.

Location was great, walking distance to Placa Catalunya, La Rambla and a Metro across the road.

Overall we had a great weekend there, made better by lovely, helpful staff! Highly recommend for a budget weekend in Barcelona!!!
