We've just came back from this hotel and I must say that my expectations were exceeded. For a 2'star hotel you get a small LCD, a quite spacious bathroom and a great location. Let's see:
Location: You are at a 3 min walking distance to the "Universidad" train station and a 5 min walk to famous Ramblas. ("Catalunia"or "Liceu" train station directly onto Ramblas)
Rooms: Average at size, the bathroom is big enough though, nice LCD and VERY CLEAN. The cleaning service is great. Tip: choose a higher floor room to avoid the noise from the busy street.
Breakfast: The food is great ! The single problem that I've noticed is that they never change the menu, so if you're planning to stay 5+ nights the foods get quite boring to eat.
Staff: The staff is very helpful, especially the men from the reception.(there are two, both of them extremely nice, especially the older one) The younger girl from the reception did seem to be bored at all times but I don't think that was personal.
Tips: Purchase the T10 card for the metro(9.85 euros/card/10 trips). If you purchase just one trip you have to pay 2 euros so it's a lot cheaper for the T10 card than individual tickets. Another important info is that if you get out of the subway and use the card for a bus you are going to use the same travel from your card(1 hour and 15 minutes max). If you reenter the metro after leaving it you be charged again from the card.
The food is expensive everywhere. At least 30 euros/couple. There are menus though that might include drinks but they find ways so that you pay extra. It's best to find all you can eat restaurants with aprox. 14 euros/pers entrance fee. You can find one at the end of Ramblas, in the mall from the Port or near "Catalunia" train station.
The beaches are gorgeous ! It's best to rent bikes(15 euro/24 hours, right next to "Catalunia" train station) because it's great having a lot of bike lanes right on the beach. By doing so you can reach further down the beach. The bikes that you can find parked all over are only for residents.
I recommend going to a FC Barcelona match. I only paid 44 euro/pers for a general ticket with a great view. It's great to see the 100.000 capacity stadium filled to the max, still in complete safety.
I saw that the hotel management reads these reviews so I would have two recommendations:
Although I've booked my room more than two months in advance and I've especially asked for a king size bed I didn't get one. When I asked for one they told me that that would be possible the following day but the room hasn't got a street view.
Another detail are the beds. They are on wheels and put together. If you try to use them as a king size bed the beds move and you might actually fall between them. We ended up just using one of them. The last suggestion is to make the breakfast more varied. It's great but it never changes. All in all it was a very pleasant stay and I would recommend this hotel to others.
