The location we knew was out of town slightly which was not a problem. 20-30 min walk from Las Ramblas and the Gaudi highlights etc. However when we arrived it took a while to find it as there is only a very small sign identifying the hostel and no reception. Jorge the owner/receptionist took the money way before showing us the room. If I had seen the room before hand I would have walked out. It was a tiny room that room smelt of sewage due to the shower drain being blocked, the lights in the bathroom were faulty, the bed was uncomfortable, the toilet had skid marks all down the pan, the window looked out into a tiny and very dark court yard that was above a faulty drain and rotten kitchen several floors below, several broken sockets in the room, faulty doors that didn't shut properly and there were bogies on the wall right above the pillows!
Not that it was a problem or loud enough to disturb us at all, but the location of the hostel is right in the middle of the gay district so be ready to see some sights after dark. The shop windows alone will make the most open minded of people blush! There are no cafe's nearby and very few restaurants although there was a nice looking (but empty) Indian restaurant two doors down.
There are no amenities in the room. There is literally, a bed with light bedding, a ramshackled wardrobe with a small fridge inside, TV with sealed bag coving the remote (WTF?!?), a side table and lamp, and two small towels.
The only good thing is that Barcelona was so amazing that we didn’t have any reason to want to stay in the hostel. We were out late partying and up early to go sightseeing!
This hotel - hostel - CELL is awful! There are many better hotels in Barcelona and every time you pass one you will regret your decision to stay in Absolut Hostel!
