The room and bathroom were small but clean and in good shape, very reasonably priced, and the A/C worked well. The location was nice, too--a cute, safe neighborhood with grocery stores and restaurants nearby (including a great place for churros right off av. diagonal).
Sadly (as other reviewers have noted), the Wi Fi did not work at all on the 2nd floor in my room and even on the 1st floor the signal was spotty. Also, the late-night street noise made it difficult to sleep even with ear plugs (and I'm usually a very heavy sleeper).
Overall, not so bad as to categorically recommend folks to stay away, but I'd look for somewhere a bit more quiet next time.

First the good:
The entire place is very clean, I would guess it has been entirely renovated recently. There is someone on staff 24/7 and all the staff are very nice. In fact it appeared to be family owned.
There is free AC, though we didnt need it in April.
Location is very close to the l3 and l5 metro stops which take you about most the touristy spots. there are many cafes, restaurants and bars very close. It is only about a 15 minute walk to the top of the rambla and during that walk you can enjoy the beautiful Paseig di Gracia.
Theres a couple of corner stores right downstairs, and the hostal has vending and coffee machines onsight.
And as far as prices go, it seemed to be about average or slightly below what similar places are going for.
There is wireless internet but...

The Bad:
The internet didnt work in my room and to get a good connection I had to go down to the first floor.
The bathroom is tiny. After stepping out of the stand up shower its nearly impossible to avoid rubbing against the shower curtain or sink while drying off.
The walls are thin. Not paper thin, but a couple of times I could hear the people talking. It didnt come through so loud I could understand them, and luckily all they were doing is talking, but it was enough to wake me up and keep me up. Street noise isnt so bad as the neighborhood isnt all that crazy at night.

All in all I liked it but am giving it a thumbs down. Not so much as it is a bad place but I just wouldnt recomend the place to a friend. Im sure theres other similar places out there

This place would have been five star in my book except for the noise. In the afternoon when I arrived it seemed like a quiet neighborhood. My room faced the small street, and i thought it would be perfect. No complaints on the hostel itself--the room was clean and comfortable, so was the shared bathroom. But the windows are single-paned, and Barcelona lived up to its reputation of late night living--the street didn't quiet down until 2 or 3 AM.
Other than that, this place is great. Price is great for a single room with a shared bath, location is two metro stops from Plaza Catalunya and the beginning of Las Ramblas. I had trouble with the wireless Internet at first, but then once they reset the router everything worked fine. I don't know if they have rooms that don't face the street, but I would definitely request one if I were coming here.
