“Appropriate Location and Good room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

people found this review helpful

We stayed 4 nights as a 4 persons family. Room was clean, usefull, warm and quiet. Unfortunately there was no king size bed in the family room. Bathroom was clean but need to repaired.
Location is very suitable to reach every connection. Personnel were looked like busy but thanks god, they answered our questions.

Breakfast was good. There was non-pork salami.

Room Tip: They should request quiet room if they want.

“The Good, The Bad and The Ugly”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Stayed here for a short break in January and when booking was seduced by the romantic name and the impression from the hotel's pictures into thinking that it was a building with character. It could be said that this it had in plenty but not of the anticipated variety !

The Good: The location for the hotel could not be faulted - just off La Ramblas, in the oldest part of the town. Hence the belief the hotel would displays some character and interesting nooks and crannies. Free internet is a plus, useful and a saving if you need access to your pc.

The Bad: The hotel has definitely seen better days and any grandeur implied by the name and location has long since disappeared. The rooms are grubby and in need of redecoration with scuffed paint and wall paper. The cover on the bed was none too clean, with stains of an indefinable source. The size of the room was tiny and I mean tiny, with barely enough room to get in or out of bed at either side and further cramped by a desk and plastic chair beside it which had insufficient room to pull out and sit on.

The Ugly: The colour schemes in the bedrooms are particulary vivid - ours was a lovely shade of satsuma orange which almost necessitated the use of sunglasses. In contrast the corridors and hallways are black with sensors which illuminate the passageways as you pass -by.

I know Barcelona is a mecca for stylists and a by- word for design but this hotel has unfortunately has none.

“bed disappeared”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

Literally, a bed disappeared from one of our rooms during the stay.
First of all, if you book this hotel because it offers rooms with 3 beds, beware. The rooms are so tiny that there is really no room for a 3rd bed, so they will squeeze it wherever they can. In one of our rooms the bed was positioned in such a way that we could not really get into it without jumping. In the other room, they put the bed in room’s corridor, right next to the door. Talk about quiet sleep.
But what makes this hotel really exciting is the service. One day, we came back to find that all the towels were removed from the room. Fascinating discovery after you took a shower. Surely, why should you expect to have towels in a 4-star hotel?
On some other occasion, they removed the 3rd bed I already talked about from the room. No advanced warning provided. We came back late to find out that one of the beds has simply vanished. A girl at the reception told us that it was probably a mistake and suggested to wait to see if she could have it reinstalled for us. No, there is no manager to talk to. After more than an hour of waiting the bed appeared in the corridor next to the room. It was getting really late and we had a plane to catch early next morning, so I had to move this bed from the corridor and install it myself. Some 30 minutes later somebody else appeared and started to ask me why did not I wait from them? Guess what my answer was?

“Only if you favour technology over comfort”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

Very good location just of Las Ramblas but difficult to find, instructions could be clearer and map is confusing maybe if you have your smartphone gps then....
Our room was like a cell with garish cold blue/ white colour scheme /lighting and worn grey carpet but if being connected is important then you have a laptop and free wi-fi provided. Shower could not be controlled lower than scalding. Not a hotel to relax in after a long day on your feet - no bar, no chill out seating just a tired old purple couch. OK in summer you could sit in their garden which should be shady but no couches!
Not a hotel chosen by me but was a gift so can't complain too much also would probably suit some (younger?) people but it reminded me of a busy Travel Lodge.Breakfast buffet adequate but busy. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Front of hotel above bar which is open all night! Garden area at back of hotel could be noisy in sum...

“Nice room, great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

First, the location is about 30 meters off Las Ramblas on Carrer de la Boquería. You will not find this hotel where Google maps or your iPhone shows it.

Room was nice enough, and a good set-up for a family of 4 (bunk beds for the kids). Our room was fairly quiet. Hotel staff were friendly.

In-room WiFi is free but get a ticket from reception for each device.
