“Fine for a short break”

I stayed with a party of four in October 2011 and found the hotel really pleasant. Modern rooms, helpful staff and no delay with check in or check out. Buffet breakfast was included and we found it more than adequate. The mini bar is included and our only comment was why beer and no wine??? We had a late meal in the bar one evening and again no complaints. The gym, sauna and steam room were excellent and the view from here is amazing. We had no issues with our AC in the rooms. The rooms are not very big but tastefully furnished with plenty of storage and we loved our bathroom. It's not close to the centre and this was not a an issue for us. It's in a regenerated area and great for business, we saw several photo shoots and movie filming in the area during our short stay. We would definately stay again but if you want tourist attractions on your door step, its better to stay nearer the centre of town. We had a relaxing experience at this hotel and the only down side of our trip was being picked pocketed on arrival when using the Metro from the airport. The staff were very sympathetic and warned us for future travelling during our stay. We used taxis and took the hop on/off Tourist buses to get around.

“ideal for business trip”

far away from city center, this hotel is ideal for company convention but not for touristic stay specially for familles with kidds. I have room on 20th flor with panoramic view on city, breakfast without tomatoes ( for me it was a drama) . Oposite the street is large shopping mall.

Room Tip: choose a room as high as you can , rooms on the left has a sea view, on right beautyfull city view

“Deceiving...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I stayed at the AC Hotel in Barcelona late January 2012 and I was looking forward to my stay. I know and trust the brand Marriott for many years and have a good idea of what to expect. I was very surprised with my experience at AC hotel Barcelona and I'm now very confused with this brand of Marriott. Not sure if they are trying to imitate W from Starwood or what but their offer is far from being clear. In a nutshell, here are some observations on my stay:
1.The hotel is very far from the center... so think about many taxis rides during your stay. 2. If you stay during winter months, expect to stay in a sauna. The temperature in my room was 26C and when I tried to used the air conditioning, it was heat coming out instead. I asked the front desk if maintenance could check what is wrong and I've been told that the hotel shuts down the AC for the winter months so there is no way to have cool air in the room. I found this very cheap and not in line with Marriott's standards - Bad Surprise#1. 3. The room rates are attractive but then you get stucked in paying a lot for any basic service in the hotel (wifi at 12 Euros per day, minimal and below par breakfast at 23 Euros and parking at 24 Euros each per day). Very surprised to see wifi at 12 euros per day when the trend in most hotels is to have it included - Bad Surprise #2. 4. I was looking to have a coffee in the morning but the hotel bar on the 1st floor was closed and the main restaurant refused to sell me coffees and told me that my only option was to get it from room service at almost 10 Euros with the 4 euros delivery charge - Bad Surprise # 3. 4. Finally, in my room, there was only 1 electrical outlet and non available at the desk. On top of it, the only outlet is linked to the main lighting switch in the room and it dies as soon as you shut the lights at night. So if you have your phone charging to make sure it will be full the next morning (of to use it as alarm clock), you'll be in for another surprise when you'll find it dead empty the next morning - Bad Surprise #4

All in all, I think Marriott brand managers have some serious work to do with this brand. I think having Marriott associated to the chain in this case is not helping the overall brand and will now discourage me from using any of the chain's hotels as I'm afraid I won't know what to expect anymore. SPG has their standards more buttoned down.

On the positive side, the minibar is complemetary and the staff if ok.

Would I go back or use AC brand again? No. What about any other Marriott brands? Most likely not.

Room Tip: Avoid during the winter months so you should get air conditioning ;-)

“Good hotel but far from the major attractions”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

I stayed in this hotel for business and just for one night.
The hotel is good and modern: rooms are good size and clean, but I believe that something is wrong with air conditioning system. My room was extremely cold and i could not make it warm so ended up falling asleep in a bath robe. Minibar is included in your room rate so enjoy it.
Breakfast is sufficient but not as diverse as in the rest of the Marriott hotels. If breakfast is not included in your rate, do not bother paying premium for it and just go to the shopping center nearby to get some food.
Staff was helpful but it does take a while to check in and check out for some reason.
All in all the stay in the hotel was good, but I think this hotel is more for business people than tourists. If you want to stay closer to main tourist attractions, do stay somewhere else.

“Nice hotel overall, unfortunately THE staff is kind of rude not helpful”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

Stayer in the hotel for 4 nights. First of all, even if we had a reservation it took us almost one hour to check in.
Second, even if when I made the reservation I explicitly asked for a roo with sea view ( and I received a mail back stating that they would have take care of my request) we ended up staying in a room on low floor overlooking a street.
Third of all, one evening my key to the room was not working and I had to go up to the concierge and back to my room floor 4 times before the problem was solved and I didn't even received a "we are sorry for the inconvenience " .
So I would say that, notwithstanding the hotel is modern and nice overall, the service is really below average, making the staying in this hotel an ok experience and nothing more.
