What do you look for in a city centre hotel? For me, its not much, I'm after a central location, clean room, en suite facilities and good value. This is a city break, I dont want to spend time in my hotel room, except for sleeping and showering.
So we come to the Hotel Barbara. I booked this at fairly late notice for one night, for one person, mid week. Price = £25.00 I booked it on the spot. Then I started getting doubts, 'thats too cheap' I thought, whats it going to be like? Ah well to late. But wait, here it is in a perfect location about 50 yards or so off La Rambla, receptionist is polite, freindly and helpfull with perfect English, my room is clean and comfortable, if a little basic, reasonable en suite room with decent shower. I've fallen on my feet. Well done me!!
And I discover that El Ravel (the area of Barcelona that it is in) is really nice. Yes its got a bit of an edge but this is a city, thats why we country bumpkins come to cities and yes there are a few working ladies near the hotel, but they weren't too agresive and a simple 'no, gracias' seemed to do the job.
For great location and pure value, you cant go wrong here.

stayed here for one night it cost 125€ for a triple room with 3single beds it was exactly what we wanted, we got a room at the front of the building. I dont deny the other reviews, yes there were prostitues by night but around the corner not outside the hotel as others have said. By night it was quite noisy from a near by bar and the rubbish bins were collected at some ungodly hour in the early morning. but all in all it served its purpose, cheap hotel few mins from las ramblas, very very clean, and the 2 staff we met were very very friendly.

Never been treated so badly by anybody claiming to be in the hospitality industry. Horrifying. Ruined my trip to Barcelona

Arrived at midday to see a line of prostitutes and, presumably, their pimps outside.

Inside, the bed was so unpleasant I chose to sleep on top of it and thd shower so filthy looking that I wouldn't contemplate using it despite being a sweltering early summer day.
