“Great Hotel”

We stayed overnight. Very friendly helpful staff whatever their job. All were attentive and professional. The room was simple and very clean. We appreciated the in room safe.
The underground car park was very hard to negociate but with care it was fine for our stay. Why do people have to be so inconsiderate and park badly thus makng the next space unusable. The staff should call them and ask them to park properly.
The location was good although I would say that there is a seedy area nearby and not to walk that way at night.

A varied continental breakfast completed our most enjoyable stay.
I would certainly look to the Abba chain again. This is our second experience and I really don't think it is worth looking at a higher grade hotel if there is an Abba in the area.

“Great place in a great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2011

Stayed for three nights at the end of April. Found it to be very quiet, clean and modern. There are markets right out the front. It was an easy walk to La Rambla, as well as the metro and many great sights, as well as cafes, bakeries and restaurants. I don’t think you could pick a better location. The hotel staff were great, helpful and friendly. We got 15 mins of free internet with our booking, which we used to book the Abba Hotel in Bilbao as we were that impressed.

I would not recommend the open top tourist buses. You can easily get the metro and public buses to any location. These buses are a waste of money ( I found out the expensive way).

“Good choice hotel - just be wary of area later at night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2011

Checked in a 1 stay stay over the Bank holiday weekend on May 30 fresh from 2 nights over in Sitges. Checkin was a tad surly & abrupt, the guy on checkin seemed very flusterred even though there was only 2 in line. He obliviously was not too good at his job as when we got back later that night the key card did not work & different people on reception seemed to be aware & validate key card with no bother.

After checkin we were escorted up to room by security guard/concierge for some reason. Room was a good size on 4th floor over looking down stairs patio area & back of hotel, window which opened fully, which was nice. Large bathroom with tub and with very large range of toiletries & stuff, even after shave gel !!! However water was only lukewarm as tried to have a bath. Otherwise no faults. Shower was fine & soaps & shampoo on wall dispenser.

Beds were comfortable & long and air con seemed good. Lots of wardrobe space & fridge with limited space owing to hotels own products. Overall good sized room with lots of space & light.

Free internet in the lobby too for 20 mins so able to print boarding passes and check email. You need to ask front desk for the codes to be able to log in.

Did not have breakfast in the hotel so cannot comment, paid 76 e for 1 night which I think is pretty good for a Spanish chain 3 star hotel. There is a cafe/coffee shop next door which does good coffee & croissant or for a treat go to the market & have fresh juice (loads of combinations) all 1.50 e or quiches or coffee & croissants & pastries or even a bowl of prepared fruiys again all 1 or 1.50 e.

The location is pretty good a few minutes from the Ramblas along Calle Hospital however later at night becomes a litle unsavoury with ladies of the night and some "soft drugs" vendors, but just keep walking & ignore them, No threat or feeling of unsafeness, however you are in Barcelona so you must always be wary.

Ate at El Convent near the market at night which was nice & had Tuesday lunch at Le Quinze Nuits in Placa Reial again both good.

“Beware of Hospital road”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2011

As a travel agent I am very picky on which hotels I stay in and I must say that I was really happy with this hotel however I do feel the need to warn people away from a couple of streets in the vicinity of this hotel one of which was called hospital road. unfortunately on our first night a group of 20 men (did not look like locals) stood watching as 4 lads in their twenties robbed my mums gold necklace by ripping if of her and left us both shook up, we are not flashy or naive just very unlucky . We both travel lots but have never experienced anything like this before and from speaking to police and the reception staff this road in renowned it so please avoid this street an instead use the nou road to the bottom of the square where the police station is when walking to the ramblas apart from that a fab city !

“Fantastic location for a great price”

This hotel is in a great location and was very easy to find, its located on a square with bars and restaurants but this didn't mean that is was noisy at night. It's less than a 10 minute walk from Placa Cataluyna.
The hotel was very clean and comfortable, the rooms were well equipped which included a mini bar, safe and the most comfortable beds I have ever had in a European hotel! The bathroom was spacious with a bath and shower with huge fluffy towels.
This is part of a chain so it lacks a Spanish personality but in my opinion this means the service and facilities are better as they are monitored by a 'head office'
