“Excellent, friendly hotel.”

My wife booked here for 4 nights for my 40th Birthday as a surprise.

We were made to feel very welcome when we arrived, the staff were friendly and very helpful.

We were given a room with a very spacious terrace. The room was exceptionally clean and tastefully decorated. The bathroom was also spotless with an assortment of complimentary sundries.

We didn't take breakfast in the hotel, we found a small place a couple of blocks away that suited our needs.

Catalonia Berna was in a nice location, most places within walking distance, but buses or metro were nearby if you were tired of walking.

I just spent one night at your hotel, having some fun in Barcelona.
Great location only 10 minutes from Passeig de Gracia.
Confortable rooms, modern and very clean.
Breakfast included is delicious.
The staff were very pleasant and helpful, especially the general manager.
I would highly recommend it for sure!

P.S.: I love your elevator!!!!

Dear guests,

“Good hotel in the L'Eixample area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

Like the Hotel Catalonia Gran Via in Madrid (part of same chain), this hotel seemed to cater mainly to groups. Stayed 6 ngihts starting October 8th as part of a Road Scholar trip, Location was great, especially if you learn the metro (subway) and bus systems - subway was very easy to learn only I did get turned around at the exits The hotel is within walking distance of Gudi's Casa Mila and about a 20 minute walk from the Sagrad Familia. It's also fun to leisurely walk from the Columbus Monument on La Rambla up to Plaza de Catalunya. Be sure to stop and rest at a cafe. Paseo de Gracia is only 3 blocks away and has lots of shops and restaurants.

I had a corner room, which I loved, but there is city noise if you open the windows. There was only one night when the air conditioning was down for the whole hotel and one night when the phone service was out for awhile. The neighborhood is very nice and it was fun to walk to the shops at the corner of Valencia - bakery, cheese, wine, flower shop. Also a convenience store just around the corner. There's a school almost next door and when the kids got out, it reminded me a lot of the Upper East Side in NYC.

Service at the bar seemed very spotty. Three of us wanted a drink before dinner one night and no one was there until another group came in. Suddenly a bartender appeared..

The main disadvantage was that CNN did not come in in my room. Most people in our group did get it and every day I was told that it would be looked at - even when the next day was that person's day off. Never did get CNN,

“Averag Stay, Friendly Staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2011

Catalonia Berna hotel experience for me was average of just above average experience. Mainly it's nice place as a starting point for going out all the day and get back at the end of the day for spending the night. As spending any time in the hotel is not very good experience.
The rooms are limited in space, yet, clean. The view is on the internal hotel space, and the breakfast buffet is not bad.
The staff at the hotel reception is nice, and friendly.
The location of the hotel is average, it's not far from Catalonia Square, the main destination for many activities, however, it's not very near also, it takes from 15-20 minutes walking and for me, with a child, it was daily discomfort in going out and getting back.
One of the major negative points is that they charge you for using the safety deposit box in your room, something I did not ever experience in any other hotel. This was very annoying for me, as the choice is that either to pay additional fees, or the hotel will have no responsibility for valuable items on the room.
