My wife and I checked into this hostel after reading the review on Lonely Planet, without checking out other places in the area first. Big mistake!

The man who checked us in at night was not welcoming, though other staff members especially the young gal who works the desk in the morning were much more so. The rooms lack charm of any kind but are clean. The foul odor in the stairwell is off-putting and should have been enough to get us to continue looking elsewhere. €60 is too expensive for what we got in return. There are much better values to be found in the area. Keep looking!

This hostal provides the basic needs for a traveler that wants to discover a new city and enjoy spanish life . It is very close to Rambla , Rambla del Mar and four subway stations Barceloneta, Liceu, Jaume and Drassanes; you can also walk the Rambla avenue for 10 minutes to Placa Catalunia, instead of changing twice the subway direction. We had no problems at the reception when coming "home" arround 4 a.m. . Having no complain about the security of our goods i can tell you that towels were changed daily. I hope i'll return there soon. Enjoy you trip to Barcelona !

My stay at this hostal was cut short when my boyfriend (who is from Barcelona) came to visit me on my double room and the owner (an argentinian) started insulting us and insinuating that I had basically picked him up from the street as if I was a prostitute. He basically insulted us in a very, very hurtful manner and my boyfriend ended up having to take the night bus back to his house. I am 32years old, I have traveled all over the world (i actually was in barcelona after traveling in India), I have stayed in many different types of hotels, hostals, etc... and I have NEVER been treated like this. Next morning I packed my bags and moved to Pension Francia in the Borne Neighborhood. I also asked the manager for a discount for having a terrible night.
I would not recommend this Hostal, it is not worth the hasle and there are many other hostals to check out. I would much rather recommend Pension Francia!

Stay away from these crazy people!!!

The hotel was basic but had everything we were expecting - fantastic location, good value, and reasonably comfortable. There is some street noise, but that's to be expected since they are a block from a pretty busy section of the Gothic Quarter. We had a room facing a side street and the noise was fine. The room was a bit small, but still manageable for two people with suitcases. Note that they require a 1-night deposit on a credit card.
