“Couldn't be better!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

The hotel was perfect for our weekend break. The location couldn't be better, 20 minutes on the bus from the aiport and a 5 minute walk from Placa de Catalunya. The room was spacious and comfortable with free wi-fi; the bathroom 'gadgets' are not to be missed.
The staff were attentive, helpful and happy to tolerate my extremely limited Spanish. By contrast their English was excellent.
Directly out of the door it's onto Las Ramblas then only a 10 minute stroll to the marina. But not to be missed is the Barri Gotic where the narrow streets are home to numerous shops, bars and restaurants - eat at Los Caracoles, fantastico!
When we return to Barcelona it will be Hotel Montecarlo for us again.

“Smack-bang in the middle!”

Superior room facing La Rambla and despite this surprisingly quiet. Room small i.e. only place to be for two people was in bed as very tight seating arrangements. Bathroom compensated for this and Jacuzzi bath was an interesting experience when trying to take a shower – a non-slippery bath math would have been great. Fantastic balcony for evening drinks whilst doing some people watching – an added bonus would have been two chairs. I would recommend you to have your breakfast at some gorge outside café instead as 17€ was a bit on the wild side. Regardless of these comments it was a fantastic hotel, safe, clean and quiet with great staff – very attentive and helpful. Hence, when back in Barca this would be the place to stay at!

“Peaceful oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Stayed here for 3 nights with my husband for our anniversary and it was an excellent choice.

Despite being on such a busy street with a balcony overlooking Las Ramblas it was surprisingly quiet. This was due to a double patio door system. I do not tolerate noise on a night as I am not used to it, so the peace was a pleasant surprise. It was just as lovely to open the doors and feel part of the outside atmosphere, especially with such beautiful sunny weather for January.

The bed was not as comfortable as I would have liked but it is unusual to get a hard bed which I like. The bedding were nevertheless nice quality and the whole room spotless clean.

Plenty of space in the room which had a seperate seating area which we did not really use.

The jacuzzi bath and shower were nice with all of the expected toiletries including bath salts. Robes and slippers too.

No tea and coffee facilities in the room, which being british, I would have liked. However there are plenty of places around to buy coffee (tea would have been more complicated i think!) to take back on your way "home".

Large supermarket over the road to buy everything you may have forgotten and plenty of cafes/places to eat in the immediate vicinty.

Staff were charming and didnt see the cleaning lady although she seemed to visit our room twice daily.

Good tip - we got the aerobus from the airport for 5.20 euros each way and this takes you to Plaza de Catalunya which is a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

Very pleased with this hotel and fabulous location.

Room Tip: You will not regret requesting a balcony room

“Fantastic hotel, great location, spectacular rooftop view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Great central location, very safe for solo travellers.

Room had free wifi, safe, fridge, tv, single bed.

The rooftop terrace is a must see spectacular 270 degree view of Barcelona and several of it's landmarks. My only disappointment with the hotel is that the roof is not open for sunrise/sunset (I believe the hours are 10am-5pm)

I booked my room early, getting a very good rate (61 Euros for a single), not sure what the standard rates are for this hotel.

I don't advise to get breakfast for this or any other hotel in Spain, although I didn't try it. As long as you're in a central location there are many other cheaper options just outside your door.

Room Tip: Pick a room away from the main street, it will be much quieter.

“Perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

I spent a week at the Hotel Montecarlo in January. The location is excellent between the waterfron, Gothic Quartert and Placa de Catalunya. I found the best deal directly with the hotel online with breakfast included. I reserved a suite to assure comfort for me and my son. We had two huge bathrooms and though it faced the Rambla noise was not an issue with the shutters down. Most of the staff was extremely helpful and friendly except one. When my other son arrived in Barcelona at 2AM and could not locate the friends he was going to stay with, he came to the hotel. The man at the desk insisted that since the room was reserved for 2 people, my son would not be allowed upstairs at all, even for a short time, to sit on the sofa until he could locate his friends. I offered to pay to add him, but he would not allow it since no one was available to set up a cot though I offered to do so. He was most unhelpful in resolving this situation and I had to pay for a separate room for a few hours use.
