“Mixed bag”

My husband and I recently spent five nights here. We booked because of the location and the good price offered by the hotel's website for our late-January stay. We were initially given a standard double room with a small balcony looking across to Palau Guell. We had two main problems with this room -- firstly, though deemed "non-smoking" it reeked of smoke, and secondly, we found the noise in the street below to be very irritating when trying to sleep (people were yelling and smashing bottles at 3am, and the noise really bounces around the narrow street). When we complained about these things, the staff was very kind and accommodating and switched us to a room with two twin beds pushed together and a balcony off the back of the hotel. Funnily, this room had a sign saying "smoking permitted," as well as an ashtray, but it didn't smell of smoke at all. It was very quiet at night, which made us happy -- we'd rather have quiet than a fancy view.

Breakfast was included in our stay, and while it was plentiful, we didn't enjoy it so much: as others have pointed out, the coffee, juice, bread, etc. are not of great quality. We did not try the hot foods on offer (eggs and such), but my husband liked the pastries.

There are a few things that bothered me and would make me not return: towels that smelled very strongly of bleach, beds that are extremely firm (though some may enjoy this), pillows that are uncomfortably high, bathrooms that ventilate steam not with fans but with a little window opening onto a strange, dark shaft.

Overall, the things that recommend this hotel are its kind staff and its good location. I would not recommend staying here if you have aversions to street noise or the smell of smoke, though our problems with both of these were luckily resolved.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the back are very quiet.

“Excellent Friendly Service”

We spent a weekend at Hotel Gaudi and were most impressed by the quality of service and staff. Everyone was extremely helpful, friendly, and professional. Before we arrived in Barcelona, my husband planned a surprise for me and the staff went out of their way to make that happen as we didn't know the city. Overall, it was an excellent choice.

The hotel is very conveniently located for all the major sites. They also offered hot breakfast. For the value for money spent, it is well worth it.

“Loved the Location and the Terrace”

We stayed at the Hotel Gaudi for two nights prior to the departure of our cruise. The location is excellent and within a short walking distance to Las Ramblas and the waterfront. We found the staff excellent and very helpful. Our room was average but was rendered excellent when we opened the curtains and discovered a fabulous terrace that overlooked the Palau Guell. We spent two evenings sipping wine on the terrace and looking at the wonderful work of Gaudi.

Overall the room was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. We certainly would stay here again.

We cannot comment on the breakfast served as it was not included in our room rate and we opted to walk to Las Ramblas to eat breakfast everyday.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a terrace overlooking the Palau Guell. Really great view and the terrace was hug...

Just returned from Barcelona after a four day pre Christmas break &, have got to say that we would not return to the Gaudi - good spot (though shut your window if you have a museum view), friendly enough staff, clean rooms (though small & basic - you should have a fridge / minibar in this day & age), average breakfast, no more than that, BUT! as someone else has commented earlier it has ridiculously thin walls, on our last night a couple who had just taken over the next room which had been empty talked (nothing more!) all night long - their conversation was plain to here & it made for a fitful nights sleep. You should get the basics right & the Gaudi doesn't in this respect.
This review is not a case of sour grapes but there are plenty of other 3 starish Barca hotels that we've stayed in & would return to but, unfortunately not this one.

“Excellent Location and Breakfast”

Hotel Guadi has an excellent location and a great breakfast buffet. Decor is modern with nice art nouveau touches in the public spaces. Beds are a bit stiff. I recommend a room with a spacious balcony and beautiful views of Gaudi's Palau Guel.

Room Tip: I recommend a room with a spacious balcony and beautiful views of Gaudi's Palau Guel.
