“Very central hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

The best thing about this hotel is its location which is in the center of Barcelona. The stuff was really friendly and helpful, breakfast was excellent. However, we suffered a lot from the noise and traffic and on top of that the hotel is undergoing renovation and it is totally covered. Not such a great sight if you want to open a window.

Room Tip: Make sure you want to put in the back rooms- they are much quieter.

“Nice hotel - central location - not a building site!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

Just back from 2 nights in Laietana Palace. Nice Hotel and great location. Good value when compared with the expensive Las Ramblas. Check-in very smart, friendly and welcoming. Room overlooking Via Laietana - a little noise from traffic but not enough to cause any upset. Room very comfortable, clean, well presented and well serviced. Not sure about the earlier comment about the hotel being a building site? Yes the front of the hotel is covered in mesh, but so are a number of other premises on the street. Yes, visually not attractive, but absolutely no impact on the inside of the hotel or on how it operates. We arrived at lunch time on Friday last & there was absolutely no work going on or any building noise. Welcome at reception was excellent and lots of good advice provided. Value - €50 per person per night - which I think is great value - have paid considerably more on Las Ramblas, for lessser quality. Overall - nice hotel - would we go back? Definitely yes.

Room Tip: Rooms to the front of the hotel are good

“Not worth anywhere near full price, but excellent location.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

The hotel is currently half a building site, which wasn't advertised at the point of booking nor was I warned ahead of time that half the building was covered in scaffolding nor of the requisite building noise.

There is nothing special about this hotel. It is overpriced for what it is and I agree with previous reviewers that it is not a four-star hotel by any stretch of the imagination. There was a distinct smell of drains on the third floor.

That said, the location really cannot be beaten. The extremely useful bus number 17 stops right outside the hotel (you could save yourself the extortionate bus tour prices and take this bus past many of the major sites), and it is set against the beautiful roman wall - just turn the corner around the hotel and you're right in the gothic quarter.

While the road outside is noisy, the windows are effectively soundproofed and we were not disturbed by the audible noise which remained.

Staff at the hotel weren't terribly helpful I'm afraid.

If you can get a good deal, this hotel is worth it for the location. But don't expect four-star surroundings, service or facilities. Oh and don't pay for breakfast! If you want something hearty do as other reviewers suggest and go right nextdoor to Dunne's - or there is an excellent patisserie just up the road by Jaume I metro.

“Very Central for all areas!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

Excellently located hotel, a few minutes walk in any direction will take you to one of the sites, the port, La Rambla etc etc.

Room was a good size, clean and tidy and over looked the paddy's bar at the rear.

Couple of things we didnt like, on arrival at the hotel we walked into what we thought was an arguement between a guest and staff at reception, took them a while break off and greet us with a small amount of the hostility spilling over! Wasnt keen on the cleaners trolley being parked right outside the lifts, didnt affect anything obviously but took away the 4* atmosphere, they should call it a 3* really, couldnt see what made it a 4*.

Didnt have time for TV, too much to do and see.

Mini bar was useful and not too over priced with great Vodka!

We were on the 2nd floor, you could feel the trains as well as the hustle and bustle from the city but it all builds the atmosphere. Wasnt anywhere near bad enough to stop you sleeping.

We booked via Lastminute.com, we added a comment in the online comments box, didnt get a reply from either the hotel or lastminute.com. We requested a top floor room!

Over all, a great trip and stayed in a very central hotel, excellent.

Room Tip: Call them once booked if you requested a room on a particular floor.
