I wanted a place that was safe to walk, yet was reasonably close to shopping, as my elderly mother and I were travelling together. Since this was my first time to Barcelona, we took a cab from the airport to the hotel. For 2 of us, it cost us around 24 euros. The hotel is in an excellent location; close to many reasonable priced restaurants, close to metro stations and airport buses and close to the Barcelona Tour bus stop. During the day, we did the Barcelona tourist bus and at night, we watched the beautiful fountain, a very short walk from the hotel. We did not pay for the hotel breakfast as we knew we couldn't eat that much. Instead, we went to the basement of the shopping mall (converted from a bullfighting arena) and enjoyed crepes, gelato and pastries. There are many places to eat near the hotel and the food was good and reasonably priced.
There were only a few bad things: One was that our flight into Barcelona was so early that the hotel couldn't check in early However, the hotel had a place for us to store our bags. Also, I could hear the clicking of the shoe heels from the floor above us in the morning. Also, internet access in the room was very faint, however, I didn't want to go to the lobby to access the internet and was able to do a few non-network intensive work from my computer.
Access to and from the airport, on the L1 was very reasonable (5.30 euros) and fast.
