“good location, mediocre service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2010

I was part of an organized tour. We were 28 people. We were put in a separate "dining room" for breakfast. It was a room like a basement room downstairs of the lobby. It was small and stuffy. A waiter went back and forth to bring food but was not present full time if anyone needed anything. The first day we were given paper cups for cold drinks, the next day we had regular cups.

Otherwise, the hotel is in a very good residential area close to a train station and touring.
I liked the hotel but disliked the service.

“survivable but be prepared for surprises”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 June 2010

Staff seem to be trying their best but have limited qualification, and management cuts too many corners. It is all true about thin walls and coughing in the next room. Don't expect bathrobes or slippers to be provided. Hygiene is dubious, e.g. bed covers are apparently washed, but old soils are still there, and some of the rooms are full of unpleasant smells of unclear origin. Some of the furniture is rather dated. Don't be surprised that a room allegedly for two people will only have one chair. The safebox is small: you will not be able to put there your laptop, only passport or jewellery. Wifi did not work one day but was ok on others (don't rely on watching movies over the net, though). Breakfasts are tolerable but nothing special. On the plus side, laundry and ironing done the same day. Overall, the level of comfort and service feels more like 3-star than 4-star.

“not a 4 star hotel: bad wifi, thin walls, mixed service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 June 2010

I stayed here as part of a conference in Barcelona. Location was great, near diagonal and near my conf. The hotel is listed as 4 stars but IMO it barely deserved a 3 star rating. The rooms have hardwood floors which is nice, but the rest of the room is lacking. Bed was large - two twins pushed together to make a giant king bed. However the mattress was very hard. My room had a bedspread with a large brown stain - at least 12 inches across.
I noticed that housekeeping replaced the spread in the middle of my stay but why was it there in the first place? The sheets however seemed quite clean. Room had thin walls I could hear everything in the next door room including someone talking to family in the US at 2am - every word. Hotel wifi is terrible it was completely out for about 12 hours from 9am until the evening.
Breakfast was actually pretty good lots of choices but it is buffet. There is no meals to be had at lunch time. And dinner only has room service with a very limited menu and hours. Compared to 4 star hotels I have stayed at in London and Paris I would put this one definitively below those - it seems to rate about a 3 star at best. The lack of continual room service or dining room and the poor wifi are not 4 star and the gym in the basement is very limited - it would hardly qualify at a decent hotel in the US. The hotel was not as good as a 3 star hotel I recently stayed at in Edinburgh.
