“Excellent location, yet showing its age.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

This hotel sits smack on a metro station, plus it is very easy to access from the airport by car (the hotel has its own garage). Once inside, however, signs of age cannot be overlooked even in so-called superior rooms. The carpets are terribly worn, tiles in the bathroom are cracked and the bathroom fittings look like having been installed by a first-month apprentice - everything is misaligned. Moreover, rooms facing the main avenue get a serious amount of street noise. On the other hand, breakfast is plentiful and very varied, and the bed in my room was really comfy. Once the overhaul is done, it will be a great place. Until then, watch out.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Paral-lel get a lot of street noise.

“reasonably priced, reasonably comfortable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Without much charm, more of a 3* than a 4*, this hotel offers relatively comfortable rooms at a reasonable price. Rooms are spatious and fairly clean, and similarly for the bathroom; you get more or less what you'd expect (...from a 3* hotel). Breakfast is OK - again, in a large room without much charm, but decent choice and reasonably good quality. The hotel is on avenue Parallel, between the districts of Poble Sec and El Raval. It might not be an ideal choice for someone coming to Barcelona for a first time and for short; but if you know your way around, the location may have its advantages; some nice cafés and restaurants in Poble Sec, interesting places in El Raval. If you want wi-fi, you can only get a 24h subscription and it's ridiculously expensive.

“Location and staff excellent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Stayed here for one night and have to say we had one of the quietest night's sleep in a city centre ever (our room faced the courtyard). Another couple however who we went with and who had a room facing the street said they hardly got any sleep as it was so noisy we could have been in different hotels. The room was clean, comfortable and spacious although perhaps it could be said that some of the bathroom fitments are looking a bit tired but they were very clean all the same. Breakfast was relaxed and adequate. All the staff encountered were friendly and helpful. The metro station is really close and La Ramblas a short walk away. If you are looking for a hotel ideally located for the sights of Barcelona then I would recommend Tryp Apolo.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the courtyard are a lot quieter.

“TIRED, WORN & IN NEED OF A REVAMP TO BE PLUGGING AS A 4* HOTEL!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Having previously stayed in a few Sol/Tryp hotels throughout Spain I was very sceptical reading the reviews of the Tryp Apolo as to date I’ve always only ever had good experiences of them, Unfortunately, The reviews are a true representation folks! I’m sorry to say Tryp Apolo that you must clinging on to your 4* rating by the skin of your teeth because this hotel needs some serious investment and a major revamp to keep the 4* status and be dragged into 2012! We stayed in a standard double room so I can’t comment on the Superior rooms, Fitness rooms or suites etc…. I like Tryp/Sol hotels for two reasons, 1, You always get a fridge in the room (to chill your cheap supermarket beers prior to heading out on a night, The Condis supermarket is turn right out of the hotel then 2 main streets up then turn right approx 2 mins walk open until 9.30pm) 2, The bathrooms are spotless and really clean, However, Staying at the Apolo you do get the fridge but not the latter I’m afraid as the bathroom was extremely shabby, discoloured grout, bath plug not attached to the chain, cracked tiles and all the stainless steel fittings have been worn through to expose the brass underneath! Panelled dark wood all over the room feels very 70’s indeed, Only 2 english channels on the TV, BBC world news and Russia today, Unless you can get this hotel at a cracking price i.e. No more than £65 per night RO then I would seriously look at a 3* elsewhere for similar money!! We stayed RO basis so I couldn’t comment on the Breakfast or evening meal dining experience, Although, we did eat in a couple of the local bar restaurants right opposite the hotel, The Bar El Rincon Del Artista and the Fashion restaurant, Which were both a very pleasant experience, decent food at a good price. As for breakfast save your money as any café in the vicinity does coffee & croissant for €2euros. Also, Save you taxi fares as the hotel is in a great location for La rambla/City centre approx 10 mins walk straight down the road opposite the hotel, Carrer Nou de la Rambla, It’s also really safe walking back late at night as the street is a hub of activity with bars/cafes/supermarkets all open late and there is also a police headquarters on the street, Metro stop (Parallel) right outside the hotel for ease of getting around to see the sights of Barcelona and one of the lines actually takes you direct to Sagrada Familia. I will definitely be returning to Barcelona to finish off the sights I missed but sorry to say I won’t be staying in Tryp Apolo!

“"Happy Birthday" & "Thank you Miguel"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Just got back from a 3 night stay at this hotel. Had a terrible experience arriving as the cab driver charged us €40 from the airport!! (anyone reading this please catch the Airport bus to and from La Ramblas for only €12 return) After that the experience was "Fantastic". Nice room on the 3rd floor, had a problem with the shower, which was sorted within 5mins. We were given some great advice that evening on where and how to go about the city. Miguel, was an asset to the hotel was very helpful, he was brilliant on organising restaurants and even got us VIP into "Opium Mar" the best nightclub in the city!! Breakfast was brilliant and well worth the extra money. This hotel is 10mins walk from La Ramblas and ideal for a city break. I would definately reccommend this hotel to anyone staying in Barcelona. Thanks for making my Birthday one to remember.

Room Tip: 3rd floor facing the "3 chimneys" was ideal and just off the main road.
