“Bang in the heart of Barcelona”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Having read mixed reviews on this hotel, I was weary of what we were walking into. But I am pleased to report that, whilst the rooms are very basic, the location is unbeatable and I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Staff were helpful, friendly and polite. And they get an extra mark for not making fun of my attempts to speak Spanish! ;)

Basic, no-frills is the mantra here, do not expect anything fancy, but if what you are after is a roof over your head in a great spot from where you can explore Barcelona, then book this hotel. You are paying for the location here - and it is totally worth it! - forget about grand rooms or scrumptious breakfasts - ours was barely passable, but there are so many cafes around the hotel if you want a more palatable alternative.

“terrible experience -- stay away!”

Overall, a horrible experience. Reception nearly refused to let us check in late after our plane was delayed, the shower didn't work and the beds were very uncomfortable, and the area is quite dodgy at night. Then, we had some cash stolen from the room. When we reported it, they first said that there was absolutely nothing they could do (we were required to leave the key at reception when out, so they had our key at the time, not to mention a master key). Then, when I pressed them, they totally changed their story and said that it was an ongoing problem, and that there had been several other thefts in the past few days. AND YOU DIDN"T BOTHER TO WARN US???!! totally unacceptable.

I have backpacked all over, and have stayed in plenty of very cheap hotels and often dodgy hotels, and this is the first negative review I've ever written, because the service and the attitude of the management was so outrageous. Stay away!

“Nothing works!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

The hotel is located near the Rambla de Catalunya, in a very busy spot because a lot of nightlife takes place nearby. When we arrived the concierge was very fiendly and managed to give us good information... Once in the room nightmare started: the bed was unbearable with a matress no-one could have slept in, the phone didn't work, the tv neither!!! The guy from the reception did not know how to solve the problems... The worst was that the room faced directly over the street and we could noy close an eye until 5 am. We decided to leave immediately!!!!

“Excellent location, great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

I came to Barcelona for the EUROTEC2011 Conference, stayed 1 week in this Hotel located 100 mts from the Las Ramblas, the location and service in this Hotel was excellent, the guys at the frontdesk were awesome and came out of the way to help me with any information and any assistance that I requested from them, breakfast is basic but all right, it would improve by including some of the famous $ 400 euros per kilo spanish Ham (just kidding),

“Great location and friendly staff - pity about the room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

The Adagio was the first night of our honeymoon and from the photos looked a lovely little hotel. We weren't wrong when we arrived, that is until we got up to our room. It was small, which I can cope with but like an oven as there appeared to be no air conditioning or any other way of cooling it down. Well I opened the window and the door that went into a little area within the building. Sadly there was a dank stench almost sewage like, but don't think it was, and one little airconditioning unit that must of been for another hotel or room within ours.
Bathroom was clean, as was the room although there was a cigarette burn on the beds oversheet.
The people on reception couldn't be more helpful, recommending places to eat, phoning the reccomendations to see if we needed to book, helped us get online with their wi-fi and even sourced us a taxi on the morning.
The room really let the rest of the hotel down but am sure that there were other rooms that were a lot nicer. Perhaps it was our own fault for not asking to move, however I felt for one night it wouldn't make a difference.
The location is handy for the Gothic area and La Rambla. Very worth looking at if staying for a short break and need somewhere just to get your head down.

Room Tip: Avoid the room on the first floor around the corner from the lift on the right handside. First room...
