“Best of Barcelona service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

Definitely a superb location, making it easy to walk to so many places - seafront, Picasso museum, Cathedral, Gothic quarter - as well as excellent access to tour buses, metro and shopping.
The hotel appears to have been recently refubished and the lounge, breakfast room and the bar - this is tucked away a little, but was very comfortable - are all excellent. The restaurant's food was very good, but some softer lighting would have improved the overall experience. Breakfast was absolutely excellent.

What really stood out was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, all of whom speak excellent English. The front desk, restaurant waiter, breakfast staff - lots of them - porters and room cleaner all appeared to really enjoy their jobs and were committed to excellent service.

We had a twin bedded room on the front, which was well furnished and had an excellent bathroom, however the bed was too hard, an increasingly common fault in hotels nowadays, it appears.

Overall this was an excellent choice for our four night stay with very good value for money delivered by a very committed team of staff.

“Good choice in the heart of Barcelona”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

The location is perfect - in a quiet street just steps away from Plaza Cataluna, which is the site for: the largest shopping centre Il Corte Ingles, airport express buses stop just in front of it, as well as the tourist buses.Short walk from the Rambla, the Gothic quarter and embankment.
The staff is friendly, helpful, and English speaking (not always the case in Barcelona).
I read complaints about bad sound insulation - however did not experience any noise - neither from the street, not from the neighbouring rooms. My room was on the 6th floor and had a terrace with two chairs and table (paid a little extra for an upgrade, which was worth it). The room is ok, better lighting and coffee maker would be welcomed. The bathroom is large and clean.
Overall impression is that the hotel is in need for some renovation. The management is obviously thinking the same, because on the last day of my stay the works had started in the lobby - during one day it was repainted and the furniture was changed for a new set of sofas, arm chairs and coffee tables, which gave it a much nicer look.
Breakfast was nice with plenty of choice. The only negative point was coffee - poured by the waiters from the pots, while in most hotels I stayed in Barcelona, there is a choice of good expresso, latte, etc.

Room Tip: Terrace rooms on high floors are quiet and more spacious

“Good location, friendly staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

We stayed for two nights. Fantastic location and wonderful breakfasts, very friendly staff and within easy reach of the Ramblas, tourist bus, restaurants and bars and the tourist information centre. However, the room and bathroom were small considering this is a 4 star hotel and no tea/coffee making factilities. Insulation between the rooms was poor and we were disturbed by early risers and constant running water from neighbouring showers/baths. However, the location made up for many of the shortcomings of the hotel and would therefore probably consider staying there again but check the room noise first.

“Good location, good food, not 4 star”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

Hotel is perfect location close to main shops but on a quiet side street. Room clean but need new mattresses. Sound proofing between rooms is poor. Had dinner in con tempo restaurant - excellent food and plenty of it - really good value meal. However, hotel charges seem high for room only.

“Amazed and Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

Just returned after 4 nites and we are amazed that we had found negative comments about this hotel by others. We had an amazingly good experience. Nice sized room on the first floor - our daughter and 2 grandchildren had a room next door which was ample for 3! The rooms were opposite the pool and could be noisy in the summer. Location, staff and breakfast were excellent. A tip - The "Bar" on the first floor is on the way to the pool and as we were off season no one seemed to know it was there. It was a luxurious place to sit around with the family, playing games or planning our itinerary and we even found it a good alternative to generally overspriced desserts we found at restaurants. Coffee, Hot Chocolate and cakes were delicious and reasonable.
One area that we feel could be improved was room lighting. It's nice having a reading chair in the room but there should also be a light close by. In addition increasing the wattage of the light over the bed would also have been beneficial.
Can't say if it was "value for money" because it was included in a package.
