We have just returned from a stay in Barcelona at the Hesperia Sant Joan Suites. We found the hotel to be ideal for us, good size rooms, clean and tidy. If you want to use the self catering facility then ask at reception and they will deliver up a box containing the utensils you'll need. The staff we encountered spoke excellent english and were most polite and helpfull.
Using the info we found here we navigated our way to the Hotel from the airport. It really could not be easier or cheaper. We flew with Ryanair from Leeds / Bradford. The bus direct to the hotel is to be found outside Terminal 2, turn left when you exit the arrivals hall and the bus stop is about 75yds up the road, it's the number 77 bus to St Joan despi. The bus journey took approx 45 to 50mins and cost 2.9 euros for both of us. The bus passes the hotel door on the left and turns right to the bus stop approx 50yds away. It's quicker by taxi but this will add at least another 30 euros to the cost. The transport system in Barcelona is excellent. The wife and I bought the T10 tickets at the tram stop, (8.5 euros). These tickets allow 10 journeys and can be used by more than one person. A particular journey can be split between different modes of transport, for instance a trip from the Hotel to Barcelona would go like this:-
Leave the hotel and turn right down the hill, at the bottom of the street turn left at the top of the street cross the roundabout to the right and you will see the tram stop. The T3 tram towards Francesc Marcia is the one to catch. Inside the tram door is a machine where you stamp the T10 ticket once for every member of your travelling group, get off the tram at Palau Reial and cross the road to the Metro Station (25yds), down the steps turn right and put your T10 ticket in the barrier and through the gate, again you can use the ticket for more than one person, down the steps to the right and get the tube to your chosen Barcelona stop. This will count as one journey per person and you can see the number of journey's you've used by looking at the back of the ticket. On the return journey, get off the tube at Palau Reial and back to the tram stop and catch the T3 tram towards Sant Feliu Consell Comarcal and get off at Hospital St Joan Despi. Short walk back to the hotel.
On trips into Barcelona I would recommend that at least once you get off at Liceu which is halfway up the Ramblas and look to the left when you exit the station and visit the covered Market - Mercat de la Bouqueria - It's a foodies fantastic wonderland.
