“When I entered the lobby I knew I made the right decision!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Where do I start really! My husband and I were on honeymoon and chose this hotel after looking at many on the Internet. When I entered the lobby I knew immediately we made the right decision. For me, the lobby says alot about the rooms and service to expect. The staff are friendly, helpful, speak English, and genuine!

I had a standard room and my goodness! If this is standard I can only imagine the executive suites! My room was extremely spacious, looked like a junior suite to me and the bathroom was equally spacious with an individual tub, individual shower, individual toilet nd bidet.

We were going to Italy for a few days and heading back to Spain and the kind folks at front desk offered to keep our extra pieces of luggage till we return! We were going to stay at another hotel on our return closer to other attractions but this service and hotel standard was too good to let go that we changed our booking to return to this hotel.

It's in walking distance of the art museum, and the arena shopping plaza and cafe as well as restaurants all around.

I would say the Internet doesnt do this hotel justice so take my word for it and stay at Fira Palace hotel!

“Solid Choice, A Little Far from Old City, Magic Fountain Noise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

PROs: Large rooms (especially by Euro standards); Good breakfast buffet

CONs: Long walk to Old City; can be noisy at night with the evening Magic Fountain show

The Fira Palace Barcelona appears to be geared to the business meeting/wedding crowd as their hotel is certainly designed for it. If you are touring Barcelona, then you may want to consider something closer to the Old City; however, if you do not mind spending money on taxis (there is a stand right outside the hotel), then this is a solid home base.

Lobby/Entrance
The lobby is nice and the staff were typically friendly and helpful (although at times, they appeared under-staffed). They provide a nice free map of barcelona at the front desk. There are 2 restuarants and a gift shop. Conference/ball rooms are towards the back. There is a pool (didnt see it, but the cholrine smell was quite strong).

Room
The rooms are quite large especially by European standards. The bathroom was large too. The furniture was a bit dated, but overall, the room is nice. Limited channels on the TV. My room faced the Magic Fountain...which had nightly shows (around 7-9pm) and some rockin' 80s music. Not an issue unless you go to bed before 10pm.

Food
I only had their breakfast buffet, which was included in the fare. Good selection of hot and cold foods, as well as baked goods. Easy to find something to eat for everyone.

Surroundings
A bit far from the 'main action' of the Old City (e.g., Las Ramblas). It is a bit of a walk to the Old City but about a 10 euro (2011) taxi ride to Placa de Catalunya. We usually took a taxi to the Old City...walked around...and depending on the size of dinner, either walked back or took a taxi. Immediately around the hotel there are plenty of shops to grab a bite to eat. There is a small bakery right up the street that offers very reasonably priced snacks and drinks.

Room Tip: It's a pretty quiet area...noise from the magic fountain may be limited by getting a street-faci...

Good location, nice place. Tasty food. Only one complain, that when I went to reception for a help, I was advice to visit plenty supermarkets overthere, and buy that "thing", but the only thing i needed was that somebody to go and maybe help me with "it " in my room.

“A very noise room!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

I was very, very disappointed with this hotel. All the reviews I read in Internet were giving the hotel high marks but we only asked for two things (a quite room and a double bed) and got none.

Our room was beside a lift, were you could heard people talking at all times. Things got even worst when they started cleaning next door room at 7:30 in the morning with no respect for other guests (moving furniture and making an almighty noise!!!). Left the room early (it was impossible to sleep) and went back to the room at 11:00 for some rest. Three times different people knocked at the door and even opened the door, despite the 'please do not disturb' sign outside and us shutting not to come in!! Unbelievable.

A part from this, we got a room with two single beds, rather than the double bed we asked for. The pillows were extremely uncomfortable. There was a sign beside the bed saying that there were more pillow on offer but there was only one (for one person) in the wardrobe.

My brother stayed in a similar type of room and got lots of complimentary stuff, including sleepers. We stayed in the hotel much longer than him (he only stayed one night) and got nothing.

Overall the hotel did not impressed us at all.
