“Great location, but......”

Seconds from Las Ramblas, basic but clean room, tiny dated bathroom with no plugs in the sink or bath and no hairdryer, it had a great balcony though. The staff were friendly, but didn't seem to know one end of Barcelona from the other. The real problem was the unbelievable noise, all of it coming from inside the building, at all hours. All in all, not an unpleasant stay, but as I value my sleep I would not be rushing back.

“Very good value, best location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 February 2011

I stayed 1 night at the hotel. Efficient and freindly staffa at the reception, fast check in. The room itself was a bit old, but with window overlooking the yard of the Gothic chuch at the back of the hotel, so quiet and lots of light. Good clean, modern bathroom witha a bathtube and a hairdryer, spacios enough.
The location can't be better: The shuttle bus from and to the airport stops at less than a five minute walk in Plaza de Catalunya. You are two minutes away from the Rambla and on the very edge of the Barrio Gotico. Other main attractions as Palau de la Musica are only five minutes away and main Gaudi's buildings within walkable distance.
Summarizing: Not a luxury hotel at all, but very good value for yourmoney. If you want a nicer hotel, the Nouvel acros the street will do for a bunch more of euros.

“Well located functional hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2011

Stayed here on business in feb 2010.

This is a clean and functional hotel just off the ramblas.

Staff are helpful and polite.
Rooms are Spartan and functional but again clean. Anyone expecting luxuriating in the bath can think again. Bathroom is cramped.

If you are looking for a conference hotel to sleep and wash with great location in the heart of barrio gotico then this is it.

Best to arrive on foot from Metro. Road access is limited as this is in the heart of the pedestrian zone.

Great cafes bars Nd restaurants within falling distance.

“Quirky but great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2011

Having read some of the reviews we were a bit dubious but as our travel plans had been thrown into disarray by the Spanish Air Traffic Controllers walkout we suddenly needed overnight accommodation in Barcelona. It is located on the first side street (Carrer de Santa Anna) on the lefthand side of La Rambla coming from Place de Catalunya on an old narrow street.
Reception was very friendly and helpful and our room was large but basic with very little furniture and no tea/coffee making facilities. Similar to a previous reviewer we had no lock on the bathroom door but a nice view onto a Courtyard/small square which is at the rear of the hotel. The basic continental breakfast is served at the back of their Café Bar area and tables are kept for the hotel’s guests. There are plenty of restaurants close by catering for all tastes and budgets and it would be a good base to explore the City. As Barcelona is one of the most expensive cities in Europe I suppose I would classify it as budget en-suite accommodation.
The easiest and quickest way from the airport it to get the very cheap express bus to Plaça Catalunya (Plaza Catalonia) which is the Terminus and when alighting turn 90deg facing the Hard Rock Cafe and to the left of it is a small street called Avinguda del Portal de l'Angel. If you go down it Carrer de Santa Anna is the second on your right and the hotel is about 150 metres on the right opposite the Hotel Catalunya.

“Good value, unhelpful/rude staff.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2011

Rooms were clean and quite. Windows had decent sound isolation so street noise wasn't an issue but quite neighbors are a must for a quite sleep as walls are paper-thin. What was really disappointing is the rude staff (only 1 out of 3 people working the front desk, specifically the only lady there, was helpful).

We stayed at the triple room and were given only one key and were denied the second key. The doors can only be unlocked from the inside with a key - a major fire hazard if you're scrambling to find a key to get out in case of a fire emergency. Keeping that in mind, when I wanted to go out without my 2 friends who wanted to stay in, the front desk offered me to lock them in the room and take the key with me. That's ridiculous in my opinion as they wouldn't be able to get out if they needed to.

When we asked for directions, they looked outraged at the fact that they needed to spend 2 minutes of their time explaining to us how to get somewhere and wouldn't repeat it twice after speeding through it just to get rid of us. I couldn't even dream of asking them where to eat and what to do as they would have simply dismissed me. They were really rude, unhelpful and unpleasant to deal with.

If you're looking for a decent value, good location and don't mind dealing with rude staff, this hotel is Ok to stay in. If it wasn't for the staff, I would have given it 4 stars.
