“Great 1 star”

First time staying in a 1 star and we were very pleased. Checked in early and they stored our luggage. Desk clerk spoke good english. Asked for a quiet room and we got a room at the back and had no noise issues. Room had air con, electronic safe. and flat screen tv as well as two beds very comfortable decent size bathroom and lots of room for 4 suitcases. Breakfast was included in the room rate and the restaurant is attached to the hotel nice variety for breakfast excellent coffee with chocolate croissants and ham and cheese baguettes, juice, fruit, cereal one can eat inside or they have tables outside too which we utilized in the evening to people watch along with a few cold beers. We ate dinner at the restaurant on our first nite and it was very good and reasonably priced.
Location is great close to Plaza Catalunya where you can buy a ticket on the hop on off buss which takes you to all the major attractions and also an easy walk to La Ramblas lots of great restaurants in the area as well.

Room Tip: quiet rooms at the back

“Lovely little modern hotel with great location”

We went to Barcelona for the first time over New Years Eve (11/12). The staff were very friendly and the rooms were very adequate - with all the amenities you need for a short city break. The staff were also very polite and helpful. The best thing about this stay is when we got back to our room on New Years Eve a complimentary bottle of Champagne had been left in our room! :-)

Room Tip: Get talking to the bar staff within the hotel - they're lovely!

“Decent hotel with good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Based on the reviews on Tripadvisor, we decided to book 2 nights at Hotel Urquinaona. At the very last minute, we changed our plan and shorterned our stay to 1 night. The change was done without much hassle.

Staff was friendly and helpful and we had no problem in communicating with them in English. We were looking for churros and managed to get some recommendations from the staff.

The hotel location is great. Walking distance to train and bus stations. Tourist bus station is also within walking distance. So is airport shuttles to Terminal 1 and 2. Walking distance to La Rambla and Bari Gothic.

Room wise, we got a queen size bed plus a single bed. So we had more than enough space for stuff. Cabinets were a little run down but toilet was big and bright enough. It seemed have undergone some toilet renovations maybe. The common area on 1st floor was tidy and neat.

The room came with breakfast. It was decent and great to sit outside early in the morning to watch the city waking up. I was expecting maybe some croissant and coffee. It was more than that! There were some fruits, and we could choose one of the pastries/muffins from the pastry case, plus fresh brewed coffee.

If you are on sight-seeing trip, this is the place where you get what you need - shower & rest.

The location was good enough if you like walking, the room was clean with good beds. The staff were friendly but quite hard to understand.

“Ask for a quiet room at the back.”

This is an excellent location right near the downtown, with an excellent restaurant downstairs where we had dinner. Included continental breakfast was coffee with cheese, ham and bread. We also sat at the outdoor tables in front of the main doors to have drinks in the early evening and people watch - that was fun. It was an easy walk to the subway, thence to go anywhere in the city. My husband and I had room 203 at the back and it was quiet. I am very easily awakened even by small noises, but we both slept well. The rooms on the front of the building overlook the busy street, and I understand tend to be noisy. Our room was small but adequate. We heard water noises from the drains; this was mainly heard in the morning when people above were showering. The water from upper floors runs through pipes in the walls, but it is an older building after all. I heard no rumbling or noise from the subway beneath the building.

Room Tip: Room 203 at the back looks onto an alleyway and blank wall, but it was quiet, and the window open fo...
