“Good, unpretentious hotel away from the touristy parts of town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

We were booked into this hotel by the travel agent, who arranged our holiday in five Spanish cities. We had a small, clean, well furnished and comfortable room, with a safe but no coffee/tea making facility. The toiletries, like those in the other NH hotel we stayed at in Madrid, were eco friendly, smelling of apples and oranges. Sometimes I wonder, with so much fruit going into cosmetics, its a matter of time before we will not get enough to eat !!

My fear that the "anti oxidant" breakfast would be a disappointment for the taste buds was unfounded as it was quite a good spread. Different breads and rolls, croissants, yogurt, nuts, cheeses, jams , fruits, salads and good coffee. Only the scrambled eggs were avoidable.

The staff at reception are friendly and helpful. Not only did they guide us about getting around the town but also booked a very good tour with an operator who was far superior to what our travel agent had arranged.

That the hotel does not have a regular restaurant for lunch and dinner was not a problem as turning right and walking for five minute walk brought us to a small square with a few restaurants and bars, at one of which we had some excellent tapas and sangria sitting amid locals, well away from the hustle and bustle of the Ramblas.

"Room service" means ordering pizzas from some outside agency, which apparently takes its own time to deliver.

Internet is free in the lobby.

The hotel is located in a quieter area of the city and there are not many tourists around, However, Catalunya is just three or four stops away by metro and in about fifteen or twenty minutes we could reach the city center.

The price is well worth paying and we s would certainly stay there again,,,if we are lucky enough to visit Barcelona again.

“Wont be Returning”

The Hotel itself was a good price, and only 2 metro stops from the Rambla, however the food ordered was of poor quality for the price paid, such as a chicken ceaser salad did not have any chicken in. The only other problem we had was from a phonecall we made to the uk, In the price lists it stated that connection charge would be €1 and €0.79 per minute, but when we came to pay the bill they told us for a 3 minute call we were expected to pay €10 after showing the desk the price lists they place in each room they went on to say that the price lists in the room where wrong, but even with the price lists they showed us the bill only came up to €5 and when we showed them this they then refused to accpet the UK was within the EU and added even more ontop of the bill.

“Comfortable and Inexpensive”

Train goes direct to Plaza Catalunya. We felt that it was convenient and yet away from the noise along La Ramblas. Wifi is free at the lobby. The only drawback was the lack of a kettle in the room and the cafe closes by noon.

Based on cost and location, we would probably stay there again.

Room Tip: no water boiling facilities in the room. toileties provided are good :)

“It came with a separate study!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2011

I was pleasantly surprised when I got to the hotel, as I was expecting a lot less.
The receptionist was very nice and helpful. I stayed On the first floor. Not only did I have my own balcony, I had a separate study room!! The room was very spacious, clean, separate bathroom with a bath.
Even though the room was facing the main road it wasn't that noisy.
The area is very safe and quiet, your living amongst tye locals, so there wasnt that many tourists about, there is a metro 5mins down the road and a FGB (train) the other way which takes you to central Barcelona and San Cugat, I really recommd going there it's beautiful.
I have been to Barcelona before and stayed oh the la ramblas, but I much preferred staying here.

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 April 2011

Before I say anything else, I have to state that the staff here is excellent. All of them are very friendly and helpful without exception.

My problem is that I should have booked a higher quality hotel. I was trying to save some money and that was a mistake. The rooms are small, but that is not the problem. It needs a new coat of paint and some of it looks a bit unfinished. The room has a balcony, but is on a busy street. The free television channels are only in Spanish and the television is also an old one, not a flat screen.

At least the minibar is not as expensive as in most hotels. Also, the 24 hour internet costs ca. 10 EU which is half the price of the last hotel I stayed in.

The breakfast buffet is very nice with a Jura espressso machine and a large selection of foods including scrambled eggs and bacon or sausages. It costs ca. 10 EU if you book it for the whole stay as opposed to 14 Eu if you book it by the day.

I would only recommend it for someone who doesn't want to spend much money and doesn't expect much from a hotel.
