What a great hostel Casa Gracia is. I would recommend staying here to anyone as I could not have asked for more from my stay.
Fabulous mix of people from all over, traveling in groups, couples, with families and also solo like myself. I stayed for 5 nights over New Year and had such a great time. The hostel go out of their way to make you feel completely at home and events and meals are organised continually which brings everyone together if they wish.
The hostel itself is on the main PSG de Gracia street which is a beautiful wide street filled with designer shops and beautiful buildings. The entrance to Casa Gracia is of a similar high standard with a gorgeous ironwork doorway and marble foyer leading upstairs to the reception. The hostel is all original features inside whilst adopting a funky modern feel. It is beautiful, modern and Catalan all at once.
I stayed myself in a 6 bed dorm with ensuite and felt that it was really safe. Key card entry to both the front door and the dorm rooms plus security on the reception desk all night. Huge drawers under the beds for locking bags and valuables in with your own padlock and a luggage room which is locked too for when you check out. The area outside is really safe too, even as a lone female traveler walking about late at night... pretty much opposite the metro stop Diagonal too which was fantastic!
In the dorms, the beds are attached to the wall rather than each other so the movements of the other person on the bunk cannot be felt by you. The only thing I thought could be improved in the room was having more plug sockets. We only had one by the door and one in the bathroom rather than one each by each bed like in other hostels, however, this is incredibly minor and charging phones / cameras etc was never an issue as there are so many sockets in the communal areas and by the internet access points / laptops too.
Paella night was superb arranged by the hostel, as was the bar crawl to the salsa club and to top it off, New Years Eve was insane. I could not have asked for a better place to stay in such a fabulous city... thanks for everything Casa Gracia - I will be recommending you to EVERYONE!!
