“very comfortable hostel. good price!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

This 12-floor hostel building was built in 2008 and all things there are wisely set for travelers' comfort. Every bed has it's own american and euopeans plug-in as well as a personal bed light. Each room has privat bathroom. I stayed in 8-bed female dorm and the bthroom included 2 shower cabins, a sink and a toilet all separated. Everything are very small, but still can accomodate 2 people at the same time if needed. There was a hairdryer as well! Shower cabin doors don't close tightly, though, so the floor gets wet fast and the bathroom gets a bit messy (rooms are cleaned daily). But I don't think it'll be a real problem for anyone. Other thing which bothered me that they don't have any place to put one's luggage (lockers are not big enought) so everyone keeps their things on the floor.
They have a really nice common area (on the 3d floor) with a terrace with a view on Agbar tower. Even during a winter it was nice to have it - Agbar tower is just beautful at night. They have a wide range of food and drinks to offer for a decent price (wide enought for a hostel). On the other hand, 6 computers were always occupied (except at 8 am) and in the evenings I have to wait for 30 min to get one. Recetion is very small for 12-floor building, it was a line there usually. Staff is quite OK. I wouldn't call them "frendly", but polite for sure, good enougth for Spain!
As mentioned in some previous reviews this hostel is a bit far from La Rambla. but it's close to a metro, so 10-15 min that's what you need to get there (get an unlimited metro pass!;)). The only problem is going out at night and especially.. coming back after a club. The only option here is a taxi. There are night buses, but they stop fairly far from the hostel and the walking area isn't nice. So if you plan to go out you might consider places closer to La Rambla and beach.

Room Tip: female dorms have hairdryers.

“Excellent value for your money, superb hostel facilities”

We stayed 6 nights at Barcelona Urbany Hostel. The first thing that we noticed is that is is an incredibly large hostel (12 floors). That being said, travelers should keep in mind that it is a hostel not a hotel, so you get what you pay for. Compared to other hostels we have stayed at in Europe & South America, it was pretty good. Urbany offers rooms that vary from private to 8 bed dorms, all with ensuite bathrooms. As for cleanliness, the room was cleaned, vacuumed, and mopped daily, as were all the public areas.

The location of the hostel is quite convenient. It is not near the main tourist areas of Las Ramblas or Bari Gothic, but is just 2 blocks away from a transit station that serves both the metro and regional Renfe trains. It is situated about a 20 minute walk to La Sagrada Familia, one of Barcelona's greatest attractions, and is close to many small bars, restaurants, and shops.

Urbany also comes with some pretty nice amenities: The wifi access was free and available with good signal throughout the property. For those without a computer/smart phone, they have 6 computers available for use 24 hrs a day. The free breakfast includes, cereal, mini baguettes, yogurt, fruit, coffee/tea, milk and powdered juice drinks. There are laundry facilities (3 washers & 3 dryers, 3 Euro each), storage lockers (free in room, separate storage room available for 3 Euro after you check out), ATM, free document printing, on-site bar, kitchen, large patio with a view, games, vending machines, and even a fitness center.

We chose to stay in an 8 bed mixed dorm and found it to be an exceptional value for $12.50 USD per night.

“Great hostel and excellent value of money!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

This is one of the best hostels I've stayed in. I stayed in the girls' dorm rooms and there's hairdryers and hair straighteners in the bathroom. Excellent security with keycard entry to the room AND the locker. There's also a paid left luggage facility. Very central location, with metro about 2 mins walk away and direct train from the airport to that stop. The bed wasn't all that comfortable, but all up, excellent value for money and I will go back if I return to Barcelona. Ask for a bottom bunk though!

“recommended!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Friendly staff, colourful, clean and fun rooms, there is a big common area on Level 4 with a bar and outdoor area. Computers with free internet were fast and easy to use as well.

Only downside for me was the taps in the bathroom - the basin tap and shower nozzle can't be controlled manually, you press it once and the water comes out with full force and when it stops you'll have to wait to do it again. Pretty annoying. There's also sensor lights in the bathroom which is annoying when you're taking a shower and the lights go off, you just have to stand there waving your arms and legs around.

Nevertheless, i'd still highly recommend this hostel and i'd stay there again.

“Modern comfort”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

It is very clean, comfortable and pleasant, but lacks the cozzyness and friendliness that students want while traveling to meet people. It didn't have group activities, service was good but limited, and the location is horrible: one has to take the metro everywhere.
