“Convenient location, great value.”

The overall rating of this hotel is somewhat misleading - the old, negative reviews evidently refer to a very different hotel, before the change of management and renovation, and can safely be ignored.

I would give top marks for value - 50 euros for a double, five minutes' walk from Sants Estacio (as long you take the right exit out the of the station). That's ideal for getting to the airport, and catching trains to France. Rooms are very modern, very clean, with all mod cons. But on the small side.

On the downside - WiFi wasn't working during my stay there. But there are computers in the lobby, so that didn't cause too much inconvenience. The staff were OK - polite, reasonably friendly, reasonably helpful, nothing out of the ordinary.

If you're looking for a late-night bite to eat near the hotel, you might come across a bar a couple of doors down in the direction of the station, called Xacobeo - avoid it like the plague. I ate meat there that turned out to be rotten, and was sick for three days. I would have reported them to the police but didn't have the time or energy.

When I wanted to extend my stay, I found that the prices on Booking.com were significantly lower than the prices quoted at the reception. So that's worth bearing in mind.

“Good service, helpful staff”

Did not have much expectations, but was pleasantly surprised. Location close to Metro, easy to get around. Room cleaning wasn't the best, but was good enough. Room was pretty clean to begin with, so no complaints. Reception and other staff were very friendly and helpful. Never had breakfast there, so cannot comment on it.

“Convinient place to stay in Barcelona”

We have booked this hotel 2 days in advance due to its availability via booking.com in spite of its below of average rating. So we arrived with no expectations but were pleasantly surprised by the hotel and the neighborhood. This is quite small 4 stars hotel located in quiet place in the center near the Sants Estacio metro station L3 - Green line, which we used daily to get to the major Barcelona's attractions. We did not buy the Barcelona tourist cards, instead we bought T10 ticket in the airport for about 8 euro for 10 rides and it was good for transfer from airport to hotel and for traveling by Barcelona's public transport. We did not take hotels breakfasts, instead we enjoyed the Carrefour supermarket which is just around the corner and is great! Every evening we surfed the web and decided for the next day route as well as spoke to children via Skype - the hotel provides free WiFi Internet access. We stayed in the hotel for 4 nights and payed 410 euro - quite good value for money. Overall, we are very happy with our Barcelona journey.

EXpensive - pretentious and COLD. Hotel charge 15 Euro to park the car and 15 Euro for WiFi Access. Didnt bother to ask how much breakfast was - Im guessing 15 Euro!
Room and bed was cold. TV only had Spanish channels. Carpet was disgusting, wallpaper ripped and the receptionists answer - complain to the manager, I only work here. What a wanker.Dont bother - I found a better hotel the next day.

Dear Mr. Derrickb,

We are very sorry for the bad experience you had in the Hotel CityPark Nicaragua, just a few weeks before the change of management. Now the hotel is managed by medium hoteles and has a new name: Hotel Medium City.
At the moment we are fully renovating the hotel: carpet will be substituted with parquet, new modern wallpapers will be placed and everybody will early note a new look in rooms and common areas. Anyway even now the hotel has a better value for money than in the past: WIFI is totally free and the breakfast has a lower special rate.
If you give us a “second” opportunity you will find a different, almost new, hotel and we will do our best to make you change your opinion.
Thanks for your opinion and best regards.

“Cold and disorganised”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2010

Stayed at this hotel following cancelled flight. Around 50 passengers arrived at the same time and check in was completely disorganised. The hotel had accepted the booking from the airline however was ill equiped to manage the number that arrived. check-in was a shambles with only one member of staff working to allocate rooms and copy passports etc. Restaurant apparently closed at 10.30pm however at 10.15 we were told that they were closed as it was 'quite late' and they "didnt have enough food anyway". The hotel then arrange to have take-away delivered which didnt arrive until almost midnight. No heating in rooms ment that I slept with the supplied bedding (cotton sheets with 1 light fleece blanket) but also had to add a second blanket I had packed to use during my flight. Only 1 mirror in the room which was in the bathroom made it very difficult for two people to get ready at the same time. Advice that was offered from reception regarding transfer time from the hotel to the bus station at rush hour was also less than useless, a supposed 20 minute journey took almost an hour. Overall I was pleased that I hadnt paid to stay at this hotel as I would have been looking for a refund.
