Sometimes the best you can say about a thing is what it is not, rather than what it is. The Microtel Placentinos is not a chain-style hotel (although those, too, have their uses) with a waffle iron in the breakfast room. What it is is a carefully designed and cared-for property that makes maximum use of its heritage setting on a lane in the historical centre. The sleek stone stairs and elevator in the central foyer contrast with centuries-old bricks and wooden beams in the rooms. Rooms are small, and the closet in mine hard to access, but there are lovely linens on the beds, free Wi-F, and fresh-squeezed orange juice in the morning. A cozy breakfast room and downstairs lounge offer space to relax. The staff: unfailingly polite. I'd do back.
