“Modern comfort, old-fashioned service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

Sometimes the best you can say about a thing is what it is not, rather than what it is. The Microtel Placentinos is not a chain-style hotel (although those, too, have their uses) with a waffle iron in the breakfast room. What it is is a carefully designed and cared-for property that makes maximum use of its heritage setting on a lane in the historical centre. The sleek stone stairs and elevator in the central foyer contrast with centuries-old bricks and wooden beams in the rooms. Rooms are small, and the closet in mine hard to access, but there are lovely linens on the beds, free Wi-F, and fresh-squeezed orange juice in the morning. A cozy breakfast room and downstairs lounge offer space to relax. The staff: unfailingly polite. I'd do back.

Room Tip: Ask for an interior room if you're a light sleeper.

“Excellent boutique hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

Stayed here in mid-October 2011. Absolutely loved this hotel. Tucked off on a quiet side street but only a few minutes walk to the Plaza Mayor. The room was gorgeous with an exposed brick wall and wood trim. The bathroom was very nice but I couldn't figure out how to operate the hydro massage in the shower. Had a bit of a struggle figuring out how to use the safe despite there being instructions in English but the very nice lady at the front desk helped me out despite her not speaking English and me not speaking much Spanish. And the place even has a nice outdoor deck and jacuzzi you can use to relax in. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast buffet was simple but nice. Welcome chocolates and abundance of mints in the room was a nice touch. And no room card or key issued, you enter a code on a numeric pad to enter your room. Great value for the 56 Euros I paid for a single room. This place is billed as 2 stars but I'd say it's almost a 3 star.

Room Tip: try not to get a room that faces the street as you'll hear noise from people walking and talkin...

“A two-star hotel with pretensions, not worth the price at all”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 April 2011

The hotel looks pretty at first sight but the rooms are too small, the power cut out when you try the hydro-massage function on the shower, the breakfast is very basic and the price is far too expensive. It would be a great find if the price was more reasonable, but at 120€ per night for a double it is overpriced by at least 50€.

“Delightful small hotel in excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2010

Unfortunately we only had time for one night in Salamanca but would have liked to stay longer as Microtel Placentinos was really comfortable, the staff were extremely helpful and the location was perfect. Right on the edge of the atmospheric university area in the old part of town, and only five minutes walk from the cathedrals and plaza mayor. Our room was small but the bed was comfortable and we found the decor to be slightly eccentric but not in a bad way! The bathroom had a hydromassage shower but we found it too complicated to operate and it worked well as a normal shower anyway. Our room overlooked the narrow street but it was mostly quiet, apart from one group of rowdy students passing in the middle of the night, but that was all part of the Salamanca experience. Breakfast was simple Spanish style with very good orange juice and coffee etc., our only minor complaint being that the croissants were cold. Salamanca is a lovely city and Microtel Placentinos is a great place to explore it from, but parking near the hotel is difficult to find. One last point - it was the cheapest hotel we stayed in during a tour of northern Spain but definitely the best value.

“Cute little place in downtown Salamanca”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2010

The Microtel Placentinos really is pretty micro, but quite nice and good value for the money. It's just a couple blocks from the plaza mayor (kinda hard to find) and the rest of the sights in town. The rooms have a combination lock instead of a key which was good, I suppose, we didn't have to carry a key with us. Breakfast was fine, nothing special, but did the trick. If you're driving there's no parking, but we found parking on the street a couple blocks down that was free at least.
