“Really Liked It Here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

This hotel is lovely. My husband and I stayed here for one night and wished we stayed longer. We had a very nice twin room decorated in yellows with views to the beautiful buildings of the old town. The only one little thing that needed attention was the fine bedspread - unfortunately it had 2 small tears in it.The staff were extremely courteous and spoke good English. There is also a delightful courtyard area over the ancient ruins which is impressive architecturally, combining new while respecting the ancient. Breakfast was ok. The location of the hotel is within easy walking distance of Salamanca. Check out the free evening entertainment in the main square. I really liked it here and would definetely return.

“Great little hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2011

San Polo is just outside the city walls of the delightful town of Salamanca. It's a friendly hotel, though when we stayed there it was difficult to find staff who spoke English. Our bedroom and bathroom were lovely, and very clean. There is an outside sunken terrace where you can enjoy a coffee or drink surrounded by ruins of the old religious building.

“central to the sights of Salamanca”

We stayed at the San Polo for two nights as part of a tour and found the location of the hotel really very good. Yes, it's on a road junction but we didn't suffer with the noise. It's very close to the old town sights - we tried out the little train to get a view of the town! Breakfast is fine with a good selection for all tastes but guests might want to try the town restaurants for dinner. The offering at the hotel is a bit 'ordinary'. They do have a small selection of tapas in the bar which some people in our tour group tried and enjoyed. The courtyard is lovely for a drink or a coffee. We found our rooms clean and comfortable - just ideal for a tour.

“Great Hotel and Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2011

This is a lovely hotel with larger, comfortable rooms, a good restaurant and wonderful location. We were on a very intense three week visit to Spain and our group agree that this was the best of the hotels we stayed in during our visit.

It is an easy walk to the Salamanca Square, Cathedral and all other locations. Breakfast was reasonably good as well.

“quirky little hotel”

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights as part of a tour of the region. The hotel is set at the junction of the busy one way system. On arrival there was no room for the coach to park directly outside which meant all passengers plus their luggage had to risk life and limb to get across the road - no gaps in the stream of traffic! The day we left the hotel put a barrier across the parking spaces outside so that we could get on safely, so why could they not have done this for arrival?? Small lobby and only one lift so it took a while for our group to get cases up to our rooms.Rooms small and simply furnished but very clean and the beds comfortable. The bathroom was a good size with a bath and power shower over. Our room faced front with a lovely view of the city walls and cathedral and also the continuous stream of traffic so there was a lot of traffic noise. It faced south west so the sun streamed in and it was hot in there in the evening as the air conditioning didn't work too well. some of our group however found their air conditioning too cold, so it must be luck of the draw! We chose to eat dinner in the hotel, the food was tasty and nicely presented although the choice is very small and was the same both days. The Gazpacho soup was delicious. Breakfast buffet was ok but nothing special. The small outside patio area is set in the ruins of the old church and is a delightful place to sit and relax over a drink.
The position of the hotel is excellent for exploring the city as it is so close to the cathedral and only 10 minutes to the centre of town.
This hotel is a good place for 1 or 2 nights but lacks finesse and the staff are very inflexible and not too helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not directly facing the road.
