“quirky little hotel”

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights as part of a tour of the region. The hotel is set at the junction of the busy one way system. On arrival there was no room for the coach to park directly outside which meant all passengers plus their luggage had to risk life and limb to get across the road - no gaps in the stream of traffic! The day we left the hotel put a barrier across the parking spaces outside so that we could get on safely, so why could they not have done this for arrival?? Small lobby and only one lift so it took a while for our group to get cases up to our rooms.Rooms small and simply furnished but very clean and the beds comfortable. The bathroom was a good size with a bath and power shower over. Our room faced front with a lovely view of the city walls and cathedral and also the continuous stream of traffic so there was a lot of traffic noise. It faced south west so the sun streamed in and it was hot in there in the evening as the air conditioning didn't work too well. some of our group however found their air conditioning too cold, so it must be luck of the draw! We chose to eat dinner in the hotel, the food was tasty and nicely presented although the choice is very small and was the same both days. The Gazpacho soup was delicious. Breakfast buffet was ok but nothing special. The small outside patio area is set in the ruins of the old church and is a delightful place to sit and relax over a drink.
The position of the hotel is excellent for exploring the city as it is so close to the cathedral and only 10 minutes to the centre of town.
This hotel is a good place for 1 or 2 nights but lacks finesse and the staff are very inflexible and not too helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not directly facing the road.

“Neither outstanding or poor just middle of the road really”

About a 5 minute walk from Plaza Mayor and handy for the motor museum and the Casa Lys museum. Only one lift so can be a bit of a wait if a tour party turns up at the same time as you and rather inflexible on breakfast times. The restaurant opens right on 0800 and not a moment before so don't go down at 0750 and expect to get in because you won't and this unfortunately can lead to a bit of a rush for both tables and food. Rooms are well equipped and a reasonable size and air conditioning works well. Prices at the bar a bit steep.

“Lovely hotel, great location and price”

I recently stayed at the San Polo when visiting a friend in Salamanca. The ruins of the old church are beautifully integrated into the hotel. The outside patio is a lovely place for coffee or a drink. The room was comfortable, the bathroom was spacious and the air conditioner worked well. I had breakfast one morning and it was very reasonable for 6 euros. The buffet contained cereal, fresh fruits and juices, breads, meats and cheeses, Spanish tortilla as well as bacon and ham and eggs. The hotel is located toward the edge of town but is very close to everything.

The Old and New Cathedrals were interesting and the university and town are very impressive. The Church of St. Stephen was an interesting surprise.

I watched Spain win the World Cup while sitting in a cafe on the Plaza Mayor and that was unforgettable.

“An Unusual Gem!”

We stayed in the San Polo for 2 nights as part of a tour of the central classical cities of Spain.

It is located in quite a busy position at a major road junction but the noise level is not too bad as the windows shut most of it out and the air conditioning works well (it was 35 degrees while we were there)

The incredible weaving in of the old ruins of the church into a modern hotel is simply stunning and a credit to the architect. The former nave of the church is now a sheltered outdoor seating area with sofas and tables and is a cool place to savour a long drink after a day sightseeing on cobblestones.

Our room was comfortable if not over spacious and the relief decor was magnificent. The floor was a little lethal with wet or bare feet.
The bathroom was spacious and well equipped with a low level bath easy to access and there was room for toiletries and also there was a bidet and ample white relatively fluffy towels.

Service at the bar was rather slow - and many guests were complaining that Spanish people were being served before them regardless of order of arrival.

Breakfast was adequate - plenty of choice of hot or cold items but not a lot of room to move around the buffet area.

We didn't eat at night in the hotel but went to an Italian restaurant off the beaten track called Giannaninos (sp?)

The hotel is well located within a few minutes' walk of the Roman bridge, several exquisite churches and the magnificent cathedral.

I really could not find fault with this hotel and was very glad we stayed there. I just wished they had managed to fit in a small pool in part of the old church as Salamanca is a very hot city and I would have liked a dip in the late afternoon.
Be prepared to walk on very demanding cobblestones throughout the city and come well supplied with comfortable walking shoes!
Anyone with walking disabilities would be well advised to avoid both Salamanca & this hotel.

I stayed here for five days. It was perfect - great location (two blocks from the cathedral), lovely rooms, beautifully situated on the ruins of a 13th century church. Very reasonably priced - less than 50 euros/ night. Wi-fied, TV, restaurant and bar. I'd absolutely return.
