“Great Hotel.... Great Location.... But....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2011

My husband and I stayed at the Melia Las Claras Boutique Hotel for a few days in July 2011. The room was very clean, spacious and equiped with TV, mini bar fridge, and electronic safe. The location is perfect. Everything is within walking distance...and the surrounding streets are quite. The hotel staff were very helpful.... and always eager to provide any assistance.

Breakfast buffet is good. Limited selection of hot food (eggs, chrizo, bacon). Cold breakfast options are plentiful with fresh fruit, toast, mini sandwich bites, pasteries, cereals, yogurts, cold cuts, juices, coffee, milk, soy milk, cheese, and breads. Breakfast at the hotel was very convinenient as you were able to eat and then spend time exploring what the city has to offer.

Hotel has parking is available for 17 Euros a day in the hotel parking garage. If you have a rental car with you.... there is little choice but to park in the hotel garage. Parking on the street is not an option as parking restrictions are enforced with parking tickets. Best to pay the 17 Euros/day and not to get stressed looking for street parking and risk getting a ticket. You won't need to drive anywhere in Salamanca as everything is within walking distance.

Hotel has WiFi available at a cost of 9 Euros per 24 hours. The WiFi signal is very very very poor and NOT worth the cost. There are many restaurants nearby that have free WiFi. The WiFi speed throughout the entire hotel is consistant with the speed of a dial-up modem from the 1990s.

Hotel has Satellite TV, but the signal is poor during the night. Channels are very limited and only 2 channels provide English broadcasting from Great Britain. More international channels would be of benefit for hotel guests.

Overall, great hotel....WiFi signal could use a lot of work.

Room Tip: Ask for room that faces front of hotel.

“Very good hotel just outside the absolute city center”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 July 2011

Very good hotel just outside the absolute city center, i.e. less than 10 minutes walk. Quite, large rooms with good airconditionong. Join the Melia club if you plan to have breakfast on the hotel since the price is then around 80 euros instead of 160 eoros. The breakfast was however excellent. Parking in the hotel is convenient but as in most cities quite expansive.

“Boutique?”

I agree with the positive previous reviews. The staff was extremely helpful, and the half-price breakfast was very nice. The hotel in on a quiet side street off of a main thoroughfare (probably good if you rode the city buses.

My only disagreement with previous reviews is that I found the hotel's location to be pretty mundane -- not in the middle of the action (cathedral, university, plaza, main pedestrialized areas, etc.) The hotel just feels a little "out of it." Not that it was a long walk (10-15 minutes) to those areas, but in 90 (F) degree heat, I'd have liked to be closer and in a more "energetic" area. I'm not sure which Salamanca hotels fit that description, and how much more they would cost, but, for me, it is something I would look into if I were to return to Salamanca.

“City Centre”

Not an any way a boutique hotel, just an ordinary business hotel. Decent clean room. Greeting letter from manager and a dodgy plate of biscuits, see photo.Instead of a cleaner wandering around reception doing nothing it may be a better idea to employ a porter to help with luggage. No bottled water except as a charge item. Save money on an expensive compliments slip with envelope and an uncovered plate of biscuits and put a couple of bottles of botteled water at guests's disposal. "Free" Wi Fi was not free, at reception they "gave" you an hour for free and thereafter charged.
