“Good location but tiny room”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

Great location, although in pedestrian area so no parking. However, hotel recommended nearby car park, 11 euros for the night. We booked through Lastminute.com and although our room was supposed to be an 'executive' one, it was so tiny, we had to take out the chair as there was no room for a suitcase. There was a small double bed, one side against the wall so you have to clamber over your partner to get out of the bed. OK for one night but I definitely wouldn't go back.

“Only place to stay in Salamanca”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

We went to Spain to visit our daughter who is studying in Salamanca for a semester. It is a long trip there from NYC. The hotel is right on the Plaza Mayor and their restaurant over looks the square. It is European style so small but comfy rooms. Ours was over an alley way which only posed a problem one night when we left our window opened and were woken up by a couple fighting. The hotel is close to shopping, the college, bus transportation & taxis. If you book it online you can get a discounted rate & you can get a deal on breakfast. Their buffet had a nice assortment & you can get a double "cafe Americano" from their coffee machine so actually feel like you are getting a cup of coffee. If you take the train from Madrid to Salamance, you will need to get a taxi or bus to the hotel. Both are easy. If you take a bus from Madrid it is a far walk or you should get a taxi. All in all a pleasant experience.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the plaza might be noisy. People stay awake till the wee hours of the morning there. We...

“Good value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

The location is the best possible, as you can take your breakfast seeing the Plaza Mayor through the window of the meals room. By the way it is a really nice breakfast for a 3 stars in Spain, if you know what I mean. Fresh fruit included!
At night it can be a bit noisy, even with the double window, but your are in a students city, you shall live according to their constant «fiesta».
For the price this hotel is good value. Clean reasonable sized and furnished rooms, with facilities for disable people (including a bathroom that allows wheelchairs and even a PC in the room (at the 1st floor rooms at least).

Room Tip: Rooms in the 1st floor are bigger and have PCs withe free Internet, but request for one in the back...

“A hostel with shared facilities would have been more private”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

We treated ourselves to 4 nights in this hotel because there was a special offer on the double executive room "with exercise bike". From the photos, I expected a really modern room - and the bike was a quirky extra that set it apart from the other hotels. I was expecting a fun romantic break. However, immediately upon seeing the room, we were very disappointed. The only aspect of the room that ressembled the photos on the website was the duvet cover. The room was definitely not a setting for a romantic break - it was old and dark, with worn wallpaper in the shower (above bath), a very slow old PC, bunk beds folded against the wall, a view into apartments (with people's washing hanging outside) and pigeons living outside the window (which was noisy in the early morning). The exercise bike didn't exist (the reception staff promised to bring one up, but in the 4 night break, they never did).
However, there was one problem that particularly impacted on our holiday. That was the fact that the bathroom door was transparent. From the bed, the desk and most parts of the room it was possible to see the toilet bowl when the door was closed. In addition, the door was designed without a frame - instead there was an open space of about 2-3 inches around the door when it was closed. This meant that there was no sound barrier - all sounds from the bathroom area could be clearly heard in the bedroom. This put quite a strain on things during our stay here. The reception staff informed us that every bathroom in the hotel has the same problem. In the past, we have stayed in hostels and in hotels with shared bathroom facilities but this was the most uncomfortable we have felt in any hotel.
The location of the hotel is good, but any location within the historic quarter of the city would be equally good. The city is lively and safe to walk around late at night and as the centre is very small, with beautiful buildings everywhere, the location of this hotel is not better than others.

Room Tip: I think there must be a two-tier system in place. Possibly the people who pay full price in advance...

“Great little hotel to absorb the Salamanca atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

What a wonderful city!! And the centre is the Plaza Mayor. Its a lively hub for Salamanca and the place to be any time of the day. And this little hotel is situated on one corner of the Plaza. Some rooms look out onto the Plaza, the room I had overlooked one of the side streets. Dont expect a peaceful stay though!! Restaurants and bars are lively until the small wee hours, and then begins the clean up!! Early in the morning deliveries etc start early! Also be aware that you could be overlooked by other apartments or noisey neighbours!

I loved this place though. Reasonable price, great staff always willing to help, even with my strange request for an iron! Small room but well appointed. Mine even had a PC!! Internet worked great.

Breakfast is ok but very late!! 8am start. I had a business meeting and it was a little tight, but the coffee was wonderful, so worth the wait.

Sample the Plaza night life and watch the world go by. Also watch as the various sides of the Plaza fill up at different times of the day as the shade moves around the Plaza.

The only problem is approaching by car. My GPS told me to venture down one way streets, the wrong way! And down streets where no cars should ever be! And there were a few police around so I dont recommend trying and using your GPS as the excuse!! I parked nearby and walked 5 mins. But with heavy cases etc it might be more of a problem.

All round a great place. Worth a weekend experience for sure.

Room Tip: Stay in room overlooking the Plaza
