My wife and I travelled for 2 weeks in Spain during August of 2011. We stayed 1 night at the Room Mate Vega in Salamanca. For the money, it was a great deal at 55 euros. The room was a bit small, but we expected that. Anyone that we dealt with at the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful. the room is clean . Our only complaint had to do with construction in the area. We kept getting detoured and could not find the hotel, even with our gps. We dont fault the hotel for this, but in the future I would suggest they contact their guests to inform them of the street closures and perhaps give an alternate route. I know that's asking alot, so I would not let it affect my rating. Thank you Room Mate Vega for the friendly service and comfortable stay. You try hard and it shows!

We stayed at the Mate Vega for two nights. It is barely a block from one of the entrances to the Plaza Mayor and a 10 minute walk to the university and the cathedral. It couldn't be better for exploring the old town section of Salamanca. It is directly across the street from the permanent market, which we always enjoy. The hotel was modern and clean and the always present pitchers of lemon, orange, or plain flavored waters in the lobby were a nice touch. The room was larger than we typically find in these small hotels. The breakfast was wonderful--varied and ample. Finding the the hotel was tricky--but that was mainly due to road construction at the time. The parking is not for the faint-hearted as you must enter via a narrow lane under an arch and after a steep downward incline make a sharp right turn to enter the parking level under the hotel with its little tiny spaces. We enjoyed our stay and would certainly consider staying here again.

My sisters, father and I took a road trip through Portugal and northern Spain, stopping overnight in beautiful Salamanca. Room Mate Vega provided quiet and comfortable rooms in a great location just off the majestic Plaza Mayor and a close walk to the university, historic cathedrals, shopping district and restaurants. Armed with maps and GPS, we still had a lot of trouble locating the hotel due to one-way streets and some construction obstacle but we finally found it. After checking in, we had to park our car in a garage several blocks away, but we never needed the car again until we left the following day. At that point, we opted to drag our suitcases to the parking garage rather than try to drive to the hotel again.

Not a frills hotel, Room Mate Vega nevertheless had a hip, contemporary elegance to its lobby and guest rooms. My sisters and I shared one triple room and we pleased that it actually had three twin beds in it; every other hotel we stayed in on our trip gave us two beds and a cot. The only complaint we had was that our dad's single room was extremely tiny; he felt like he was staying in a monastery cell. Both rooms had windows opening to outside...ours had a small balcony overlooking the street and the market building across the street.

We did not purchase the breakfast option but enjoyed the availability of cold ice water in the lobby and the friendly, casual yet professional ambiance of Room Mate Vega. The price and location were just right and I would stay here again on a future trip to Salamanca.

We stayed here recently for 4 nights and could not have been more pleased with the location....rooms are a bit on the small side and paying a 10 euro supplement got us an "executive" room on the top floor....highly recommended.....staff were very friendly and breakfast entirely adequate...we don't hesitate to recommend.
