“good straightforward hotel”

Another Sol Melia hotel very reliable. Friendly staff, good breakfasts and sensible rooms all at an attractive price. Tryp was about 15 minutes walk from the centre of Leon so not ideally located but it worked well for us.

Room Tip: All rooms good

“A little outside of town”

This hotel is pretty new and looks nice but the materials are pretty cheap so don't expect it to last. It is in "the suburbs" but next to the new Modern Art Museum so there is something to do in close proximity. There are also little shopping areas and ATM's nearby.

“Good value for money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2006

Although it is not a family hotel - it's more of a business hotel, lots of business men/women - as a family with a 2 year old and a baby we felt very confortable.

It is not in the heart of the city centre, but it's quiet, new and clean. You can walk to the old town and city centre in about 15 to 30 minutes -depending on how fast of a walker you are- without a problem (we did that walk twice a day for 4 days), but you can also take the bus around the corner, it's cheap (about 1Euro or so, can't exactly remembe- rids free ) and it leaves you right at the city centre to start your walk in the old town or to El Corte Ingles (a department store) if you have any shopping or if you want your lunch or dinner at a non-spanish time- we could not wait to have dinner at 9pm when they open the restaurants- so we went to El Corte Ingles and had our dinners there, not too bad- if you want your spanish typical meal than wait for the restaurants to open, of course!
In spite of a new non-smoking law in public spaces all the restaurants and cafes in Leon have a sign saying "you are allowed to smoke here", quite frustrating for us since we hate eating or having a coffee with smoke, that's another reason that we found the cafeteria of El Corte Ingles quite good - because there's a non-smoking are and since it's a big space you don't quite notice the smoke as in the small restaurants.
If you don't have breakfast included and are planning on having breakfast at the restaurant sign in for the Mas card (the hotel's chain client card), it costs you nothing and two adults eat breakfast for the price of 1 and it gives you the possibility of late check-in. Children eat free. The breakfast buffet was good but not huge in terms of choices. Lots of sweet things though, the Spanish seem to like sugary breakfasts :o) We love our big breakfast, and overall we were happy with what we got.

They have non-smoking and smoking rooms (although there's a new law in Spain which forces all hotels to be non-smoking, but it seems that the hotels are taking their time to apply it). According to the hotel we should have been in a family room but all the family rooms are smoking allowed rooms. We refused to be in a smoking room and so the hotel said that if we were carrying our own baby cot then we could go to a regular non-smoking room but would have no space to move. Well, yes, between the cot the rollaway bed and the queen bed there wasn't much space in the room but it's ok if all you want it is for sleeping and having a bit of quiet time. The bathrooms are big - huge! and clean. Anything which is not provided in the bathroom and you need don't hesitate to call reception, they were good at bringing whatever we needed.

The reception desk seems to be a bit busy at times and might have to wait for a few minutes, but they were helpful and attentive.

Leon is a small beautiful town, very cold though in February!

Overall we found it to be a good choice. If we had to ever go back to Leon we would probably not look further and stay at the same hotel.
