We stayed here for one night in August, I booked based on the location but noted reviews complaining about service with some concern. The location is fantastic and the hotel is beautiful. The breakfast was unusual and the waiting staff were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, this hotel is let down by very rude, unprofessional and unhelpful reception staff. There was a problem with our booking - we were five people allocated four beds. The reservation was made through booking.com and the hotel reception staff did not want to know. We spoke mother tongue Spanish but got nowhere. In an effort to find a solution I absolved the hotel of all responsibility for the messed up booking. Still, no response. I put forward solution after solution - extra bed, king or queen sized bed etc. The response was a constant, "no." They really could not have cared less, secure in the knowledge that by this time our free cancellation window had elapsed. After about 20 minutes of arguing they offered us a bigger room but still no extra bed. It had a small sofa that our youngest agreed to sleep on so we took it. At 11pm they phoned to say they had located an extra bed. I spend about three months a year in hotels on business trips and holidays. I am struggling to remember the last time I met such unhelpful staff. I have always been impressed by the overall price/quality ratio of the NH chain over the last 12 years but they've now lost my custom based on this experience. I appreciate that customers, hotels and booking sites all make mistakes at times but when that happens if I'm making an effort to find a solution I am looking for a commensurate response from the staff on the other side of the desk. It just wasn't there and they seemed to take pride in making life difficult. It's a shame because this place could be great.
