My wife and I drove from the ferry port of Santander to the Abba Hotel, Burgos approximately two hours away. We were greeted by the Spanish lady on reception who booked us in and gave us our room card key. I had already parked our car in the hotel's garage and we went to our room which was on the first floor. The Abba hotel in Burgos is quite splendid and we were very pleased with our room. It was spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was large and the facilities better than expected. The view from the window was of the beautiful cathedral...we were very happy. In the morning we went downstairs for breakfast. The food was plentiful and we were literally spoiled for choice. There were meats, cheeses, fruits, cereals, eggs, bacon, all the usual Spanish sausage food, freshly squeezed orange as well as other fruit juices, tea and good coffee. The hotel also serves lunches and evening meals all of similar good quality and huge portions.
It's impossible not to find the Abba Hotel as it has huge illuminated letters on the roof spelling out its name. The location of the Abba Hotel just couldn't be better as it was right in the area where 'it' all happens. The beautiful Cathedral is a two minute walk away with all the bars and restaurants right there too. With all this going on nearby the hotel is surprisingly quiet. After breakfast we explored the hotel and found a superb heated swimming pool. It was lovely. Burgos itself is a great place and is on Spain's Camino de Santiago walk. This a a famous religious walk which is now a 2011, film by Emilio Estivez called, 'The Way'. The Lion Man of Hohlenstein statue is right outside the beautiful Cathedral. You will definitely see walkers with their rucksacks and wooden staffs making their way through the cathedral plaza. Hotel staff were all happy to talk to us in English including the cleaners. It was nice to see happy staff as this usually reflects on the hotel itself. We booked on-line and paid 64 Euro per night. The superb breakfast cost 13.5 Euro each but well worth it. We stayed two nights and enjoyed everything the hotel had to offer us. We had never heard of Burgos before and now we will definitely make a return visit. There is a Burgos Castle with a trendy cafe/bar very close by and at the top of the hill. Great views over the whole of the city of Burgos from there.
