“Not a great place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

The only two things I can say about this hotel are that the staff are friendly and helpful and the food is good. The overall look of the hotel is good if you don't look to closely. The decoration is a bit slap dash. The decorator obviously didn't wear his glasses. On the face of it the room did look clean but after a close look at the bedding, I didn't get into it. The bathroom was a bit dated. If you can find the hotel in this busy city, it is very difficult to get the car close to the entrance because of the one way system. The staff are forever running out to get the guests parked, hence loading and unloading luggage is a pain. The hotel is not disabled friendly although there is a lift. I shall not stay here again.

Room Tip: This is a city hotel, well soundproffed

“One of the better Melia hotels even if not obvious at first”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

The hotel is difficult to find, the parking is even more difficult to drive into with a medium saized car. They way to operate the tv in the room with 2 remote controld drives you crazy the first time you do it, and there are building works in the hotel with scaffolding all round. the hotel is obviously old and appears a bit worn out but.......the interior of some rooms and the lobby has been kept well maintained (other rooms still need an upgrade but i had one of the rooms with the new bathrooms) and there is a very good restaurant, the beds are comfirtable. The price will most likely be below €100. All in all good news but the best of all is that the staff really try to provide a good customer service experience. In my experience this is where most Melia Hotels ALWAYS fail the test: lousy staff who are not interested, who cannot be bothered to give an upgrade to their platinum guests even when there is a larger room available, who do not answer the phone if you call them from the room, etc. etc.
This is one Melia hotel I would come back to quite happily - it is good but not pretentious and charges a very fair price. Unfortunately for Melia, in most cities I visit there are very good AC, Hilton, Sheraton, Westin and Meridien hotels that are always better. But not in Burgos.

“Perfect location and good value for money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2011

I stayed one night at Melia Fernan Gonzales in August 2011.

The hotel is centrally located and offers very reasonably priced rooms (we paid around 60 Euros for a double room in the high season). Staff was friendly and accommodating and our room was spacious. Only setback was that the guests in the room across from ours had brought theyr dog along - and it barked all night! We considered informing the reception about this but in the end we didn't bother...

The décor is not exactly my style (red walls and old fashioned furniture) but the room was tidy and clean. The bathroom was a bit outdated (especially taking the hotel's 4-star status into consideration) with a shower curtain that kept falling down...

Still, all in all, based on the location and the price level, I would definitely recommend staying at Melia Fernan Gonzales if you are planning to visit Burgos! And while you’re there –visit La Favorita for delicious tapas!

“a great place to stay”

This hotel is old style but modern. Rooms are good size with good bathrooms. The hotel is 'grand' but not pompous and the fixed menu is stunning value. For 2 meals (menu del dia) including a bottle of wine we paid 25 euros. Not haute cuisine but excellent food, beautifully presented. A very good breakfast buffet - but at 12 euros it would keep you going all day so missing out on the local tapas bars. Once you realise that the reception staff do - in fact- speak English and French as well as their native tongue you will have little trouble communicating. They were very friendly and helpful
