“Good Stay, Recommended”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2010

Had booked the Hotel Real across the street but was able to cancel on the spot when we arrived from Madrid and discovered that the Hotel Real does not turn on the a/c until June 1. And it was hot during the day!

Walked in Hotel Abad and immediately liked it. Its attributes are handsome rooms, great water pressure in the bath and shower, very nice and helpful staff and superb location. The walk up the hill was not a problem for me. The hotel design is a very appealing mix of ancient and modern, with stainless steel and glass along with exposed brick. The price for Friday night was much more than Thursday night.

Only problem is that the sheets may be polyester, as noted in another review. I slept very well; my wife was a little uncomfortable. The room was quiet. I was not impressed with the buffet breakfast. It was very basic.

“Small. interesting, well-located hotel with helpful staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2010

This small, well-located hotel with helpful staff was a great place to stay in the old town - convenient but not in the heart of the tourist madness. Our room was comfortable and clean, a good little buffet breakfast was available on site at reasonable cost, and we had a very beautiful view from our room's two balconies. The decor is fundtional, not sweetsy-cutesy, but the place has personality and everything you need for comfort. Good bedside reading lights. The staff was very helpful with directions and suggestions for meals. Safe parking is available for a reasonable charge. Because it's on the edge of the super-touristy area, driving there was easy. Absolutley recommend this hotel - I'd say "auberge" if we were in a different country - very highly.

“Clean with air-conditioning and well-situated.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 April 2009

Small boutique type hotel. situated in the delightful walled city of Toledo. We had two nights here in order to sightsee and the duration was the right amount of time for us. The hotel couldn't arange parking for us but they do have a piece of ground that other residents were luckier at reserving. We discovered that there is free parking all day further up the hill on the left hand side of the road or pay on the right. The breakfast room was not in the least appealing but there's plenty of choice around and we went across the road to a well frequented bar. We had a problem with the room we were in (no.42) as it has steel beams interspersed with wooden beams that proved really dangerous in the dark. In the bathroom particularly as there is no more than 5'7" clearance at loo height and ditto on the right hand side of the bed which disappears into a 2.5 ft eave - very deceptive and very painful!! That aside it was a perfect little hotel, very reasonably priced and we enjoyed our stay. We found a really typical tapas bar over the Puerta Nueva de Bisagra called "el corralito" which was old fashioned charming with fresh tapas. We loved Toledo.

“Good for a Weekend”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2008

We spent three nights at Hotel Abad this month (April) and found it to be a good choice for a long weekend. The location is excellent, less than ten minutes walk from the cathedral and the Plaza Zocodover and within walking distance of all parts of the Old Town. It's about 20 minutes walk from the train station as well. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, and the room was clean and tidy. The hotel has lots of character, and our room had a very high ceiling with wood beams and lovely floors. It was a bit small but perfectly fine for a couple on a shorter break. The one negative, and it was a biggish problem, was the temperature of the room. Although there are temperature controls in each room, the hotel controls them centrally, and they don't turn the air on often/at all. The weather in Toledo in April was a lovely 70, but our small room was stifling even at night and it made sleeping difficult. Having the window open helped, but in the summer this would be an issue, and if you were on the front side of the hotel you'd have to contend with traffic noise. Also, the breakfast is way overpriced at 7 euros per person. Walk two minutes to a cafe and you'll pay less than half that. Overall, we'd recommend this hotel for convenience, amiable staff, cute rooms, and cleanliness, but only during cool weather!

“Too HOT !”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2007

people found this review helpful

We stayed for 1 night on top floor roof room in July 2007.
The room was nice, cozy room.
The staff are nice, we parked a car for free just near by.
(just up the hill on your lefthand side)

However it was horrible experience to stay.
Because the room airconditioning was not strong enough to keep cool down us even though we put a plastic card to put in the electric slot to cool down the room for hours.
All heat came therough the roof all night.
We both wake up in the midnight. In the end,I slept on the floor.

Be careful, the summer in Toledo is very hot.
Top floor roof room is not good...(maybe other room too ?)

Specially airconditioning is not working properly.
