We have just returned from 7 nights staying at this delightful hostal. We stayed in room 42 on the 3rd floor which has a balcony. Room 41 also has a balcony and twin beds(ours was a double), Rooms 32 and 31 would also share the same fantastic view over the River Tajo but without a balcony.
The bonus of this hostal is the jacuzzi/swimming pool which was immaculately clean. The proprietor was at work cleaning the small but beautifully formed grounds and the pool by 9am. After a long day often in over 40 degrees it was wonderful to come back to a shady garden and a jacuzzi. One powerful jet enabled me to swim against it and thus release a few calories!
This is a family run hostal with sisters, grandparents around the TV when we got back. despite some language difficulties they could not have been nicer. Calling taxis when required and dealing with a blown light bulb in our room within half an hour. Excellent value for money compared to hotels.
At present their restaurant is closed for renovation. A great shame as you don't go to Toledo for good food unless you are prepared to spend a lot of money. But there were adequate places for breakfast (Manila in Plaza Conte) only minutes away. Also excellent Chinese restaurant close by.
Scenery and place to explore are numerous. Try Sierra Toledo,also Aranjuez and Chinchon, all within 2 hours drive. Extramadura not far also

The two best things about the Hostal Descalzos are the swimming pool and the view. There is a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and free tea and coffee in the reception area, which always seemed to be full of the three generations of the owner's family so as guests, we weren't sure if we had the use of this space or if we were impingeing on theirs! The bathroom could have been a little cleaner (some suspect hairs not of our colour in corners) and our beds had wheels on them, so you never knew where you were going to find yourself in the morning. Yet the headboards were nailed to the wall ~ strange........ The centre of Toledo was just a stroll away and there was an excellent range of good restaurants. After a long day on our feet it was great to relax by or in the pool before going out for dinner and we could have looked at the view from our window for ever.
