“Quiet location, great views of Toledo, friendly service, and good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2009

If you have a car and are comfortable being outside of Toledo, Hotel La Almazara offers an historic building with a courtyard, a quiet location well away from the road, and beautiful views of the historic center of Toledo. The service is friendly and helpful -- and the rates are a good value. If you want one of the 9 rooms with a panoramtic view of Toledo, specify when reserving (the rate is just a bit more),

Other pluses, as well: the hotel has *air conditioning* (I would recommend A/C, given high temperatures reached in Toledo); and the light fare offered in the dining room in the evenings works well for most of the guests who are tired out by sightseeing (and the heat), prefer not to drive to another location to eat, and are content with a light dinner offerings (such as soup, toasted sandwixhes, salads, wine). In addition, the guests are a pleasant (and quiet) crowd - and some share travel experiences, which is interesting and fun,

The rooms are "basic" - but the housekeeping is good, with clean linens and towels daily, and perfectly adequate bathrooms.

No television - or mini-bar -- and these are nothing to miss, given the view of Toledo by night, and the first floor bar for beverage service.

Nice hotel - nice atmosphere - and very scenic location.

“A great value find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 May 2009

Just a couple of km outside the city but having good views of it. A former Bishop's country house. Fairly basic rooms, but comfortable enough. Terrific value.

“A very surprising find”

Was persuaded to stay here by a friend as a stop-over on my way to Marbella. Had previously stayed at the Parador which is a four star with amazing views. This is housed in a beautiful building with equally panoramic views and the staff are really helpful. It is basic. The bathrooms should be upgraded and the breakfast could be a lot better but for the money it's a real find.

“Lovely hotel, great view”

A very nice hotel with friendly staff. Rooms are simple, but have all you need (AC, bath, shower, good bed). Great view over Toledo. A slight disadvantage is the distance to Toledo: with 38gr Celsius is to hot to walk, but with a car there's no problem, with free parking available at the edge of Toledo where the road from the hotel joins the 'round'road of Toledo.
And if you like honey: the hotel produces and sells there own honey. It's very good!!

“Wonderful views of Toledo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2007

We (two adults and a grown up daughter) stayed for one night in this hotel overlooking Toledo on our way to Segovia. Directions to the hotel on their web site are a little misleading as the map shows Madrid as being South of Toledo. We were coming from Cordoba and had no trouble finding the hotel as it is well signposted until you actually get to the entrance which can be missed as it is just a gate with a dirt road leading up to the building. There is plenty of car parking in the courtyard though.
Hotel La Almazara was the Bishop of Toledo's summer residence and the hotel lobby certainly has an air of the stately about it. We were offered two bedrooms with adjoining doors, and while we had booked one room, we took up this offer as the bathrooms were smallish.
Both rooms had balconies which overlooked the old and beautiful city of Toledo. Being outside Toledo and set well into the grounds, the hotel is very quiet.
Breakfast is served downstairs (we were on the first floor - no lift) and was very nice. Wifi is provided in the lounge. They make their own honey and pottery which is available for sale. Sadly we could not take pottery with us.
With a car at our disposal it was easy to drive back into Toledo (about 5 min.) to find restaurants nearby and to stop at the many laybys to take photos of Toledo at sunset.
We discovered Toledo needs at least two full days of exploration and we would gladly stay at Hotel La Almazara again..
