Please forgive me but this is going to be a long review, I’ll break it out by parts and I will try to provide complete information.
On November 2011, we visited Toledo and the Hotel Carlos V was the best of all the three hotels that we used during our two week vacation in Spain. To begin with, I chose this hotel because it has good reviews in Trip Advisor and because their cancellation policy was reasonable. Our first hotel choice was “La Posada de Manolo” but their cancellation policy was very confusing so I crossed that one out from my list and I took my chances with “Carlos V”.
Reservation process: To begin with, after doing my diligent research I decided to contact the hotel by e-mail regarding reservations and they promptly responded to my e-mail. They provided the information about availability, prices, cancellation policies and they redirected me to their website to make the reservation. I did our reservation and a few minutes later I received my confirmation e-mail. I contacted the hotel again a week prior to leave USA to reconfirm our reservation and I received a prompt response from them. Three days prior to our trip to Toledo, we changed our trip plans and I had to contact them from Madrid to modify our reservation, unfortunately, they told me that the only way to modify it was through their website. I honestly did not like that; I was expecting to be able to modify it by phone. Luckily we had internet access and we were able to access their site but their site just gave us the choice to cancel the reservation, so I had to cancel and create a new reservation. So it took me a little bit longer. Finally, we received our new confirmation e-mail and we were fine. I hope that their management can change that rule of not accepting modifications by phone or e-mail.
Checking in/Out: As soon as we arrived at the hotel, their front desk employee greeted us very politely. He gave us immediately the key to our room, I believed it was room 231 (I believed so). When it was time for us to check out, the front desk rep, had our bill ready, they were not hidden costs and we were able to leave our carry-ons in there while we went to visit the museums before going back to Madrid. BTW, we spoke all the time in Spanish with the employees so, I don’t know how proficient they are with English.
Room: Our room was a double premium and what a beautiful surprise. The room is a corner room with two windows and three different views. One view was a lateral room, so you’ll see the building in front of the hotel, and the second view from the main window, shows you part of the neighborhood. The décor was very modern, the room had a big bed, closet with minibar and a safety box, there was an LCD TV screen and there was a nice bottle of red wine waiting for us as a courtesy from the hotel. For the price that we paid (65 Euros) per night, I was amazed to have that room. This was the best room with the best price during our two week trip to Spain.
Noise: even though, we had two windows, they were sound proof so we did not hear any noise from the street. I heard just a little bit the guests from the room next to us but it was nothing out of the ordinary.
Bathroom: The bathroom was big and very modern; it has the toilette, bidet, sink, a gorgeous tub and the shower. There were toiletries in a fancy container and there was a hairdryer. Please be aware that this bathroom does not have a curtain shower therefore if you take showers, the floor which is marmol is going to get very wet and you might fall if you are barefoot. Recommendation, bring flip flops.
Restaurant: our reservation included the breakfast so we were able to use their restaurant. The room is in the lower level and it has a very Moorish décor. The place was very clean. The waiters were very friendly and the food was good. They had the standard Spanish breakfast it means that they had juices, bread, hams, fried eggs not scramble eggs and fruits. Oh, they also had cereal, coffee and teas.
Location: The hotel is located very close to plaza Zocodover. So, just get off in plaza Zocodover, walk up the street, pass the bank which is located on the right side of the street and you’ll see the sign for the hotel. Make a right, walk under a tunnel and you’ll see the hotel on the left. The hotel is a 10 minutes’ walk from plaza Zocodover.
To conclude the Hotel Carlos V made our visit to Toledo very memorable. If someday we go back to Toledo, I will definitively return to the Carlos V hotel.
Room Tip: Select the corner rooms. They are bigger and have better views.
