Maybe we have been unlucky so far, but we have learnt from personal experience that finding a good hotel in the centre of Toledo is not especially easy. This time, because we were arriving from the southwest by car and did not intend to visit the city, we chose to stay south of the river, a couple of kms away from the town centre. This turned out to be an excellent decision: for just 60 euros we had a simple, clean, air conditioned room with a superb balcony on a hot sunday June night with views north to Toledo. The bar has the same view, as does the restaurant, which was good. The poor waitress seemed a little overworked, but she was efficient and friendly. There is a nice swimming pool, and parking is private underground and free, so this is a great place to hide for a day or two. The hotel is isolated (and therefore quiet) so you need either to drive or use the hotel bar and restaurant, neither of which are especially expensive. I think you can take day tours of the old town with hotel pickup - but check that out. All in all much better than expected and therefore highly recommended.
