“A highlight of our holiday!!”

Imagine staying in a classic Spanish maison, romantic, atmospheric, unique. For us the stay at Hotel Almunia de San Miguel was one of the highlights of our 2 week road trip around Spain. We would strongly recommend that you obtain a Tourist office map of Toledo and ask them to point you in the direction of the hotel. Once found it really is a treasure. We will never forget our beautiful room, the lovely interior of the hotel and the idyllic view from the terrace.

“Almunia de San Miguel - A Great Part of the Total Toledo Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 June 2010

"Almunia de San Miguel" is located in the ancient Spanish city of Toledo amongst a maze of narrow streets where the people are friendly and welcoming to travelers from all over the world.

Locating the hostal, the traveler should first Google its location as it is nestled in the back streets of Toledo and can be initially challenging to find. But it is conveniently located within 5 minutes walking distance to major points of interest in the city.

The traveler will find a warm, inviting, courtyard lobby filled with antiques and plants that set the mood for the experience to come. We were greeted by “Enrique” with a kind and friendly welcome of a “Mi casa es su casa” nature. In the spirit of the people of Toledo, he helped prepare us for our stay and excursions with an abundance of assistance that included city info, a map with sites of interest, travel routes to and from the hostal as well as his personal contact info in the event we found ourselves in need of his immediate assistance …all of which made us feel very “at home”.

Our room had very adequate amenities and décor reflective of the ancient city we found ourselves now a part of. Our windows opened up to a magnificent view of the entire city. We enjoyed the daybreak and sunset of the Toledo we were looking for.

On the roof we found a terrace that gave us an even deeper glimpse of the city with so much history and mixed culture.

A very filling continental-style breakfast was personally served by the staff (8:30-10:30am) in an ancient circular brick and mortar room located down a set of Spanish-tile lined stairs in the basement. Its charm and unique personality made us curious as to what the walls would tell if they could talk about its historical significance to the hostal and Toledo.

All in all, if a traveler(s) is looking to experience Toledo and its rich history, we highly recommend staying at the “Almunia de San Miguel” hostal. You won’t be disappointed!

“Disappointing. Really difficult to find. Service was seriously lame.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2009

Hmm. Where do I start? The hotel itself is very charming. And I suppose if the staff had behaved as if we were of interest to them, we would have had a better experience. So we arrive midday--burning hot day in Toledo and we've been walking the streets trying to find the place for what feels like forever--and imagine our surprise that the front door is locked. And it takes several minutes of knocking to get it opened. We were ushered into a darkened lobby--okay, it's hot. We get that. We can hardly see the decorations, but in the dim light they seem charming. We are shown up to our rooms--the kids are in one room, we're next door. And all the charm of the lobby ends at the door of the room. Depressingly tiny. Ours didn't have a window to outdoors, but only opens to a central interior courtyard. The rooms are boiling hot, and the a/c is provided by huge units that sit over the door of the room. Not only are they noisy, but they drip water. So my husband and I are in a dark room, with a noisy a/c unit...and the most uncomfortable beds we experienced in Spain. The pillow cases weren't even large enough to cover the pillows and the sheets were not enough to cover the mattress. The bathroom amenities consisted of a giant container of all-purpose shampoo/cleanser on the wall of the shower. But I suspect all of this would have been just fine and dandy except that the man who let us into the hotel then proceeded to disappear. For the entire afternoon and evening. So we had no information about how to get the password for the Internet, no recommendations for a restaurant, no information on getting a tour of the town, no way to ask for extra towels. He just vanished from when we checked in at midday until the following morning. Breakfast was absolutely pathetic. Coffee and toast was it. Cereal jars were empty, no fresh fruit or anything resembling a decent breakfast. This hotel was not exactly cheap. We expected a whole lot more for our money. Lovely to look at. Not a good experience.
